remember the "drive-in's"? Going to the movies in the family car, making a run to the snack bar for some goodies and getting back in the car just in time for the cartoon before the movie starts..life was good way back then!
I do miss the drive ins. Last one in Alb closed MANY years ago. Built a 24 cinemaplex in it's place. Unfortunately, there's just no $$$ in drive ins anymore. And everyone wants to be a multi billionaire.
Was watching the movie "Grease" the other day with my offspring. Had to explain to them that drive ins are how movies were seen in back in the day.

we still have a drive-in here in NWA..it closes during the winter and reopens agn in March..it does a pretty good business and shows all the latest releases..every now and then they will show a classic..mostly the kids go there. Last tiem I went there a few yrs ago, I didn't enjoy it at all...seems alot of kids would much rather irritate everyone older that 35 with their bump-n-thump sterios

X2, never really been a fan of him, and he took out quite a few other cars, most of them ones in the running just cuz he got forced down past the yellow...I don't see why he is the most popular driver the last time he won was under caution and hadn't won 76 times before that...

They need to tighten up Digger's timing.

While I am still a fan of the late Intimidator, there was one specific short track night race where Terry Labonte was down a lap twice in the last laps of the race which he came back to almost win. On the last lap, Dale bumped him and spun Labonte out. I am still a fan, but yet critical of the move.
I did not see the entire 2009 Daytona, only the highlights which are not enough to see the entire wreck.

I have lost all interest in NASCAR. It can flounder and die for all I care. Since Sprint took over it has gone downhill so bad it isn't worth watching, and the new cars absolutely ruin it for me. They look like cars that teenage punks build on Mommy's credit card. The drivers are nothing more than pissy assed kids who can't take their lumps, and Tony Stewart is a royal jackass.
I like the old days of NASCAR with Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt, Darryl Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte, and Neil Bonnett. Those guys could race. This new breed couldn't hold a candle to those guys.

I agree..I liked the old days of NASCAR also..I too use to watch each and every race..now, I may watch only one race the whole season..I do love the super speedways, daytona and talledaga.

Prototype racing on road course is the best ... I also like GrandAm...
and Touring cars.
Never was much for the roundy round yahoos or the staright line guys.

What about the odd shaped Pocono? It's a speedway.

ALMS, INDY, SCCA, and F1 are what I watch the most.
ALMS is great. Five races going on at one time. Prototype classes 1 and 2, GT classes 1 and 2, and overall. Don't have any particular driver or team that I pull for, but I do like the Audi's.
Indy is fun to watch even though the cars are powered by the same engines (which I understand a new manufacturer is supposed to be entering the mix again).
Don't get to see SCCA much, but the touring cars are awesome.
F1 has to be one of my all time favorite driving disciplines.
First of all you have a car that is easily one of the most technologically advanced machines on Earth. The steering wheel makes more computations in a second than the computer in a street car makes in an hour. Nothing goes on the car until it has been function tested for reliability and failsafe. Then it has to pass muster in the wind tunnel. More testing is done on each car than is done on a production car. The cars are so aerodynamically perfect that, in theory, at full tilt one of those cars could drive upside down because of the tremendous downforce that the car is subjected to. Every line, crease, angle and opening is there for a reason. Even the paint is flawless so to eliminate drag caused by dust that may fall in to the finish.
The driver is subjected to more gravitational forces in one lap than a fighter pilot. The cars can produce nearly 2G's in straightline acceleration and 5G's under braking. Just intense.
NASCAR will whither away and die eventually.
With the big three in serious financial struggles, it's inevitable they will stop sponsering the so called "sport".
Fine by me. I don't watch it. Don't care for it.
Racing should be between real street cars. Not some go fast track only POS with engines worth more then most peoples houses.

x2. If Nascar wants to survive, they need to go back to the days of Richard Petty and the like, and race cars that are basically the same cars you can buy off the showroom floor with a roll cage and the windows rolled down. Talk about a good time!!

See, now that's what I'm talking about. The early days of NASCAR started out in the garages of moonshiners. They built their cars to outrun the law. They were "showroom" cars. You could recognize the make, model, and for the most part, year of the car. Today the only way to tell the difference between the Chevy's, Ford's, Pontiac's, and [shakes head] Toyotas is by the stickers they put around the grill area.
SCCA is about as close to stock car racing as one can get any more. These cars look like something you will pass (or will pass you) on the highway in the morning on the way to work.
As for the future of NASCAR, it may never be what it once was. The manufacturer line-up may even get shorter given the American manufacturers failing, however, the company may never go away. They recently aquired the Rolex Series, and plans are to market the total snot out of it. Rolex is (was) a good series to watch.
