So my school SWEARS by this program and its really pretty cool and it helps out a lot with calculations and whatnot... but is it what engineers use? For engineering it seems to basic almost....

I used two of the original CADD programs in Technical Drawing back in early 90's. I also used newer programs while I was in engineering classes at a Univ. We did use Math Cadd often. I would say almost everyday. We also used it doing programming in C+ and C++ and several other engineering computer programs. I kind of had an edge though having done the hand drawings. Gave me a more complete idea of the reasons certain basic principals are followed.
It wouldn't hurt to know it, IMO

MathCAD is a basic program. But, it's a descend "entry drug". Once you get in, the other programs become easier to pick up in the long run.

I've taken classes on SolidWorks and ProE Wildfire. SolidWorks was MUCH easier to learn and pick up. But doesn't do things that ProE did. We used both at the machine shop I used to support so I had to know each one and how to support it. Oddly enough, I was better at using the programs then all the "engineers" in the classes. ;)
