ATF = injector cleaner?

I had a guy tell me, every few months he put a quart of ATF in his gas tank to clean the fuel injectors!! Can this be right? Opinions? TIA!!

a quart a month at a time seems a bit much..never heard of doin that tho..I'd be leary until I read something "official" sayin it was ok..

I agree with Doc. Never heard of that one. You could use fuel injector cleaner!

I agree... I would never try it. Just wondering if anyone has heard of it before. I haven't.
I googled it last night. Some people use it in their oil. The idea is ATF has a large quantity of concentrated detergent in it and some claim it cleans better than any other products on the market.
Seams people either swear by it or are absolutely opposed to the idea. Personally, I could see it causing to many other issues.

I have read that in some countries with cheap gas or ethanol based gas people will use it to keep there injectors lubed up kind of like an additive.

Before I change my oil I pour a half quart in & let it idle for about 5 minutes, I believe it works just like that engine flush. But I would never try it in my gas.

I know some people do use it in the oil. It breaks up any large deposits and cleans out the engine. My engine is being held together by those deposits so you won't see me using it.

Wouldn't that clogg up your oil pump?

I have used Marvel Mystery Oil in both gas and oil with good results. I think the only thing it and ATF have in common is the red color but I could be wrong.

ATF dose have alot of detergent and I have used it on diesel engines I would fill the fuel filters with ATF and it seamed to work (the engine would run) but I realley never felt any power up like the injector were being cleaned but I kept the engine running in tip top shape

i have used it a few times, not in fuel but thru a larger vacuum hose to do a "intake runner clean" it works just like any BG product but beware it will smoke like crazy for about 10 mins

I know Marvel mystery oil works well, but never heard or ATF.
