What is (if any)the best way to replace u-joints on rear drive shaft if you don't have a press? Is it even possible?

You can use a couple of sockets and a BFH or there is a press at Harbor Freight that works pretty good.

I picked mine up for $30 on sale.
Works well - saved me a smashed thumb or two...

I use a grade 8 bolt w/ a nut on the threads and a hammer and just pound the u-joint out.
Not right, not safe but works. Get the HF u-joint tool and save yourself some headache

C-CLAMP is what I always use.

Most auto supply stores will loan you a u-joint press, and I feel the press is the safest way to go.

A good shade tree mechanic would use either a C clamp or a socket and a vise..but by far, the ball joint press is the way to go..I just did my front drive shaft and the BJ Press was a PLUS and then some!

These writeups of mine should give you a couple different ideas...
Writeup for changing wheel joints. (http://www.cdmfabrication.com/wheeljointl.html)
Rebuilding a CV Driveshaft (http://www.cdmfabrication.com/cvshaftsl.html)
However I've found a better way yet, well I was shown a better way, that involves a vice, I need to take some pictures to help explain it though.
