a spark plug (of all things) stabed in my tire sometime this week, and made about a 1/2 hole, damaging wire and all. the tire shop its at now is trying to boot it, but they dont think it will work due to the hole being right in the curve of the sidewall.

is it possible to patch the hole and run a tube in it? trying to save $300 for a new swamper. thanks.

I'd spend the money on a tire. 1/2" hole is pretty large, as a temporary fix, yeah I've seen disaster dan plug holes larger than that, even in sidewalls, to get him home. My opinion though, a lifted Jeep, high center of gravity, short wheel base, the last thing that I want is a tire blow out.

Just don't like jerry-rig fixes on tires, steering or brakes, all too important with rigs like ours.

I would use it as a spare but not for daily driving.

Go to a place that works on 18-wheeler tires. They can fix sidewall damage.

I dunno..seems $300 for a new tire would be alot cheaper than an insurance deductable and a emergency room bill

Might be worth asking about road-hazard insurance on your next set of tires. Or did this set come with certificates for that?

if you want it fixed sturdy for a good trail spare that you can finish your day wheeling on not just limp home take it to a shop that does heavy equipment tires, theyll put a good plug patch in thatll hold great. Shops like that are used to fixing sidewall damage, happens alot on job sites (reebar's a *****) and backhoe tires cost a hell of a lot more than a swamper, tire shops that do equipment tires know how to fix that kind of damage. places that do highway truck tires wont even touch a hole that big.
