Hi
I just bought a couple new computers...
Is there an easy way to get all the extra free stuff that is always loaded on them but never used off of it?
Is it worthwhile to do that or will having all the extra junk on there not really make a difference?
Thanks!
Patrick
Just bought a full power Win 7 XPS cpu myself. A few things different from Vista. To answer your question, you can go to the sites and get the "free trial" stuff, usually for 30 days.
What OS did you buy? need more info. One thing w/ 7, you'll need to buy Office, can't open or use your docs w/o it.
I think Rit misunderstood the question. In the Control Panel you can open Programs and Features and uninstall anything you don't want/use.

Hi Paul, thanks, I did misread it. When I looked before it read "install" (to me), now it says "uninstall"............:D

Huh? Does Win 7 block you from using OpenOffice, Lotus Symphony, or any other alternative?

Nope I have Windows7 and use OpenOffice just fine
My Open Office just directs me to Office, it's all propriatary. Are you sure your not running off of the trial offer which is installed on ALL windows 7 OS?
All of my doc were switched to .WPS file when I restored them. If you buy it on line the price for MS Office is some crazy price like $249., $125. at Amazon, just bought it at Costco for $119. and you can use the "key" for up to 3 computers.

I'm glad that I'm still rockin' XP. It sounds like it's much simpler.

Another vote for XP here. Though I wish it were a little more formattable to personal preferences.

Office will never come WITH Windows. It's a separate application with a separate license which has to be purchased separately. OpenOffice is a open-source alternative to Microsoft Office.
BTW, I love Windows 7.

If you are talking about the screen going blank after a few minutes, go to the Control Panel and select power options. Click edit plan settings next to the selected power plan and in there, you can choose when to shut the display off when on battery or plugged in.

Taking a quick look, the newest drivers on the Netgear site are for Vista from 2008. Have you tried to install the card? Windows 7 has a LOT of built-in drivers for everything. If it can't find a driver on your PC or from a disc, it will connect to the Internet and find drivers for you. Works 9 out of 10 times IMO.
That being said, I'm not a big fan of using wireless on a Desktop. Wired is best if you are able to run a cable to the machine.
If you can't get the card to work, any will do considering there are Windows 7 drivers available. I'm partial to Linksys ;)
I was refering to the display going to "screen saver" in 3 minutes but I did go into Power Options and I think all I had to do is go to "high performance" then make a custom adjustment.
Nope, that wasn't it . It switched to the screen saver in about 2 min. after I took my hands off of the key board.
My OS is a new XPS8100 Dell Windows 7 w/ all the upgrades, desk top and cable. I also have a new Dell Studio laptop, Windows 7, but wife useually has that.

Right click on the desktop and go to Personalize. There will be a screensaver link on the bottom right corner. You can change the settings there.

I did try to install it...which is what lead to the call to Netgear...tried software with card...tried software from netgear...tried updating windows...nothing seemed to work...

Have you tried installing the wifi card in "compatibility mode" ?

I never had any luck using compatibility mode. I never thought of trying to install hardware that way. I guess you could try, but I don't think it will work.

forgive me, i haven't played with win 7 much yet. But i believe if you right click on the installer (.exe) there should be an option there to run it as such.

Thanks!! I don't know how many times I saw that or went by it
It was set on 1 min. and driving me crazy..........I need more time to think.
