Well I need a new one now anyway! Crashed mine today. Went around a curve not 1/2 mile from my house. The road is pretty narrow so I got over to make room for oncoming traffic. I got too far over and went into the ditch. I hit a culvert, came back out of the ditch, across the field access and back into the ditch on the other side. The jeep started to go up the embankment and rolled. I walked away un-injured. More pissed than anything. I do have a burn on my right wrist from where it caught the steering wheel as it was spinning.

Anyway...jeep looks to be a total loss. axle shifter one way, front clip shifted the other. tub is buckled below the door, control arms look like spaghetti, windshield frame smashed, hood and fenders same traffic.

Found another one. Same year, less miles, more mods, less money that I spent on the one I had. May come out on top for once.

Oh and as if the day wasnt bad enough I got a call from my lieutenant a little bit ago asking why I wasnt at work. I guess the schedule changed and I didn't know about it, and never thought to check the schedule because we have set days off. God freekin help you if you cross my path tonight or tomorrow!

Bummer...at least you're "undamaged".

Post up pics of the "replacement" when you can - sounds like you found a good deal.

I like the color. There is a silver one around here too, but I like the green. 3 orange vehicles would be too many.

Kinda looks like a retro of Lime Green , Dodge did in the late 60's....

it was called SubLime, Plymouth called it Lime Light
and there was
Plum Crazy (D) In-Violet (P)
Green Go (D) Sassy (Gr)ass Green (P) Course the GR was dropped on the street
Go Mango
and Vitamin C which was bright orange (Hemi Orange)

I am Curious Yellow Dodge or Top Banana Plymouth

Dang I can't believe I remember that !

Doc: No that was one of the state troopers taking the accident report. Due to budget cuts we dont take crash reports anymore. Even if we did it would be a conflict if my department took my crash.

Went and checked out the green one yesterday...it was OK. Nothing special except the color. It was pretty dirty and had chips and dings all over it. It was starting to rust around the windshield. The interior was filled with dog hair. I would buy it, but not for what he's asking.

Found several more online including one with a lift and 35s for $15k. Also going to look at an 07 JK tonight.

Back in the late 60's They also had one called Statitory Grape but later changed it to Hot Pink. My uncle had a Hemi Cuda in this color. Well not really. He never took possesion. It fell off the train during unloading and the kid driving was killed. He ended up getting a '70 Challenger in Plum Crazy.

Jason, if you have any questions about the JK, call me.... i'm partly biased towards the Jks..... but i miss that 4.0... and parts are generally cheaper for the TJ.

still.
good luck.
better hurry up, though. vacation is creeping up fast. :D

Yeah. We found an 80 Scout in immaculate shape for $8k. Im trying to convinced the boss that it's a good idea but she has to be all rational with questions like "Are you gonna drive that to the beach? Are you gonna complain when it's cold in the winter? Are you gonna want to drive that in the snow" etc...

Steve,

It went straight from the crash scene to the towing company's yard for the insurance co. to look at. I didn't have a chance to do anything but remove my personal things from it.

Thats a shame. I've never seen another Unlimited that color. The only Jeeps I see that color are rubi's.

Well it looks like I WONT be getting a new Jeep after all. Talked to the insurance company today. There is $9,500 in damage to my Jeep, but they arent going to total it. I'm actually a little pissed.

That's more then 3/4 the value. Especially since you got it relatively cheap if memory serves me correctly. I'd put some pressure on the insurance company and make them total it.

Jason J Crawford
07-14-2010, 09:08 PM
I paid $14k for it but I got a deal. It books for around $17k in good condition and with it's current mileage. State Farm said they total at around 80% of total value.

I'll have to see what their final offer is. I'm considering just taking the money and rebuilding it. They gave me $8k to rebuild El Guapo, and it was bad ass, with top dollar hard core parts. I'm thinking I could do a cosmetic rebuild of this one for a couple grand, add in some wheel and tires and still have a bunch of cash left over.

b1pig
07-14-2010, 11:10 PM
jason, you probably could go that route if they work it out with you. I know i had estimates ranging $525-$1000 for the dents in the challenger. the big factor was the cost of the paint. (inferno red aint cheap)

even a moderate build could be had at $5,000...

me personally.... i tend to get attached to vehicles over time. i'd get sick if my JK was totalled.

Jason J Crawford
07-15-2010, 12:23 AM
Lucky for me I don't get too attached to vehicles. I dont think I'd ever part with my cherk, or my 3B once its done. Anything else though is just...eh...just a vehicle. Maybe I'm just jaded since I got rid of El Guapo. :)

I'm pretty sure state farm will cut me a check if that's what I want. My big problem if I do that will be getting it finished before the beach!

So the god damned insurance company has no ****ing clue! Called today to see what the status was and now they are saying they have no idea why I was told what I was tols yeaterday. They said the adjuster hasn't issued his full report yet and that my Jeep is currently sitting in a salvage yard, because the adjuster expected it to be totaled.

I'm good either way. Total it, or cut me a check to fix it. Either way... **** or get off the pot!

Jason J Crawford
07-16-2010, 07:57 PM
So here's the latest...The insurance company is not going to total my Jeep The estimate I have says $9k in repairs, however it does not include anything about the suspension, front axle, or soft top frame.

I suppose all of that is irrelavent because they can't issue me a check to fix it myself since there'a a loan on the vehicle. I got ahold of Chase and they said that it has to be done by a shop.

This kind of pisses me off because they are blowing money on things that could be done right for so much less. For example...they are quoting $242 for ONE side step. I could get a set of rockers for that! $900 for a fender, not including paint or flares $900!! $450 for a hood! Daveys Jeeps has hoods for $150 and fenders for $100/ea.

Honestly I could have this thing back to stock for around $1k not including paint. I'd like to spend some of that extra money on wheels/tires and a modest lift.

Any thoughts?

This happened to me and my old TJ. I spoke to the body shop manager and told him I wanted to use the money toward aftermarket parts and they were cool with that. Once I signed the check from the insurance company they gave me a check for the difference. My TJ was hit by a four wheeler while at Paragon - the lady backed into it and damaged the tub, the flare, bumper and exhaust...they quoted like 5400 bucks to replace and repair...when it was about $1200 worth of work. The bumper and flare were simple scuffs and the exhaust tip was just scratched. The tub had a grapefruit size ding right in the bend. I wound up getting aftermarket exhaust, flares all the way around, wheels, tires and rock bumper and walked away with $2000. Talk to the body shop...see what they say.

:ditto:

another thing. theres a big push down here about getting whatever quotes you want and then you pick the shop you want. have them all quote using "factory quality parts" as well. always more expensive. that might help you out, too. i've seen these ins companies fix a car when they should have totalled it.

I'm conceeding defeat.

After several run arounds with the insurance company and various body shops, I am giving up. I'm just going to let state farm fix the Jeep at a local dealership. They don't want to listen about the damage thats not on the estimate. They dont care that I could fix it myself for much cheaper. The body shop manager is salivating at the prospect of a $10k plus job. He wouldn't even work with me on my deductible. He did offer me a free oil change though

well.
it takes the pressure off of you to get it fixed and do all the daily followups.

when it gets back, though... i'd be a total ass about anything that isnt done. whether they want to listen or not, whatever was damaged in the accident MUST be replaced. Thats what the insurance is for.
