I'm trying to put a high flow muffler on my 2001 q-cab, 4x4, 5.2. Everyone tells me I should have a 3 inch inlet/outlet on my stock muffler. Mine is 2.5 from the cat back. The factory muffler is only 2.5 inlet/outlet. About 2 inches past the muffler, the tailpipe flares out to a 3 inch pipe. Anyone else come across this? Did Dodge do something stupid with my truck? Ron

I have not looked at mine... I guess I should do that. I am thinking of doing the same thing.

i am not sure about dodge doing something goofy with your truck but i had a intake spacer from air raid put on and then a k&n filter with the addition of a flow master 2 chamber muffler with it dumped after the cab. made a little difference and i think i would've been happier with a chip instead.
i own a 01 off-road with the 5.9 auto. having a little trouble with the tranny, and a damn rattle that just started with my blower motor in the dash. gotta take it in to find out what wrong now. but i do love it.

I couldn't find a manufacturer who makes a 2.5 inlet/outlet muffler, they all make 3 inch in/out. I called and e-mailed with no good answers to why not. One reply, we haven't made one yet. This style truck has been out for how long???? Oh well. Soooo, I took matters into my own hands. Bought a Dynomax Ultra flow (no restriction, straight through), welded on 2, 3inch to 2.5 reducers and an extension pipe. Came out VERY nice too. Sounds good and a lot less than buying a complete cat-back. I'm happy.....
