I have a 78 Ford F-250, Extended Cab, 4WD, 4 speed, 400ci, with a cracked block...
I picked up a 77 Ford XLT, 2WD, Automatic, with a 351M....
I was told on this BBS that is would fit right in...This weekend we pulled the 351m and got to looking at it and a few questions came up (Note: the 400 has not be pulled yet!):
1. Pressure Plate
Will the pressure plate off the 400 bold onto the 351 and work alright (automatic to 4sp)?
2. Exhaust Manifold
Comparing, the exhaust manifolds look different, Am I going to have to by headers?
3. Oil Pan
The oil pan on the 400 has the lowest point on the aft end, so that it will not hit the axle (4wd) while the 351 is on the fore end. Will this be a problem? Can the pans and sump be switched? Help?
