never been there. I always go to Demler's in niagara falls. It is private property but we are allowed to wheel on it. Not sure if you have been there. But the only rule is never drive on the farmers corn field or he wont let us play. email me at x35sonaCJ7@aol.com if ya ever wanna get together.

Hey fellas,
I am new to the Binghamton area and see a few wheelers around but don't recognize any clubs either and have no clue where to go. I think my best bet are the Jamborees this summer and fall for getting the scoop. My younger sister goes to school at UB and I could use a visit as a break to hit a trail. Crappy drive so I have to make a weekend out of it. Let me know if you two get something together for spring.

Guys,
I was raised around Bradford Pennsylvania. It is oilfield country and covered with Jeep trails. That used to be the only way to get around to service the oil wells which are spaced 300 to 500 feet apart. The trails are all privately maintained for the working vehicles and many of them have been abandoned for years. As long as you respect the property rights of otherss and tread lightly you can ride for miles. There will be plenty of posted areas but there are hundreds of miles of roads without.
A word of caution, stay home during hunting seasons, you won't be welcomed. Yield the right of way to all work vehicles and act like a guest, you will enjoy the ride.

I am originally from Bradford, PA... and Water Buffalo hit it right on the head regarding the "lease" roads. Most of the ones in place today are relatively recent (50 years) and were used to get access to oil wells/pumps.
In addition, Bradford is right on the edge of the Allegheny National Forest (which also contains the Kinzua Bridge - wooden railroad bridge, and the Kinzua Dam). There is a Jeep Jamboree scheduled for June 14th - 16th (Penns Woods) that will allow registered Jeeps access to National Forest roads that are typically closed. This year will be my first year... going in a 94 YJ. You might want to give it a whirl to see the closed areas with a big group and maybe take some time to explore while you're in town.
One note - on the NY side of the border is the Seneca Nation of Indians. The roads and grounds on that side of the state line that fall within the Indian Reservation are absolutely off limits. This was, is, and has always been their property (sovereign nation)... and we should show the utmost respect and honor their privacy. I would strongly caution anyone against testing their commitment to guarding their land.
Slightly west of Salamanca (the Seneca Nation of Indians) is the (NY) Allegheny State Park. I'm not sure if there are any open roads in there, but a call to the State Park rangers would certainly answer that question. I know when we were kids, there were open roads that would take you into the woods, hit a gas-line trail, and you could go a long ways through some steep terrain. I'm just not sure if they're still open.
I can say that the terrain and scenery in that are is well worth the drive. With the opportunity to camp, 4x4, and enjoy a little primitive forest... what could be better?

Hey, I am in Buffalo, NY as well. Unfourtunatly, I have not been able to find any offroad trails. My family owns ~200 acres down in East Otto, this summer I am going to work on getting some trails made (or seeing if any exist!)

Hi,
I'm new to the board and I'm also interested in finding off-road trails in NY. I live in South Westchester but will travel North for some Jeep fun. I just picked up a 4-wheel drive beach (fishing) permit at Robert Moses in LI just so that I could drive on the beach (and pick up some dinner hopefully) :)
I took it off-road up in Roscoe a couple of weeks ago but that was private property (got permission)and the trail was short but it was great because it was a rainy weekend ...nice and muddy!!!
I went to Camp Jeep in Virginia 2 years ago but the off-road experience was a little boring. Too many people, too slow and stopping WAY too often. Everything else about the weekend was awesome tho....has anyone else ever been??

Greetings: My jeep is sleeping for the winter and the parts for it are slowly coming in. But I grew up in Western NY. I know of tons of legal trails down in Ellicottville, Franklinville area. I also know some of the Native Americans who run a dice run in Salamanca NY. I have been working on some of those guys to put together a Jeep Run together. The FireFighters usually put the Dice Runs together and donate the profits to local charites. I also grew up on a dairy farm down there, my parents still live on the farm and maybe with a little convincing we could get a Jeep Jamboree together if there is enough interest. We could all camp on the farm and hit the trails when day breaks. Just and idea if you are interested let me know

If we could get a estimate of how many people would be interested we can start planning for the summer.

Try looking up sites like: Department of Conservation, US Fish and Wildlife (USFW), National Park Service, State Parks and see what you find.
Some of those organizations control land that may be used for 4WD, or might link to ones that do.
Good luck.

posted this in another area to respond to a similar post...We are at a big disadvantage up hear 'cus most of the public use land is off limits to vehicles. Maybe if ya get to know somebody with some land in the southtowns or midstate(deer camp type stuff) ya might be able to do some tree dodging. Too bad most of the other folks here get to play on big rocks and stuff. Went a coupla years ago with some guys and ran the power wire access areas in the southern tier...found out later tho it was illegal as it is considered private property..DOH.
I figure I get my 4 wheelin' in during those great winter adventure times...ya know, getting to work BEFORE the plows are out and getting home on a saturday night when the plows arent runnin'...ya gotta know where I come from on those points right? My entire clan owns Jeeps, exept son #2 who went against the grain and owns a Blazer..didn't even plow out the drive way this year..I didn't put it there, i ain't movin' it!
