Every year for the last forty years they have been having a Jeep parade at dusk in Ouray, Colorado for the 4th of July. Anyone with a Jeep can enter. At dusk, Ouray (pronounced Yur-ray) fire department volunteers will strap flares to your front bumpers (using wood and tape so no damage to paint or bumpers) and place you in line at a mountain overlook above the town. As the sun sets, all of the jeeps start down Hwy 550 towards the town itself. Once all the jeeps reach Ouray and start parading down the main street (one of only two paved streets in town), the fire works begin on the mountains behind them. Ouray is at 7700 ft and the fire works are spectacular as they explode against the silhoueeted backdrop of 13,000 foot peaks. Thousands of people pack the sidewalks of the main street to cheer for the jeepsters and the fireworks.

It is a real nice family event and if you ever go jeeping in southern Colorado you might want make it to Ouray for the 4th of July.
