Hey,
You can go to Glamis for some sand, and around the Salton Sea area. Im pretty sure there are some areas in No COunty SD..ill have to ask Jerry Bransford.

One of the best kept secrets in the southwest is right here in San
Diego county, the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation. It's nearly to Warner
Springs, past Julian or Lake Henshaw, depending on what direction you're
coming from.
It has so many trails, after paying a $15 entry fee, that you can't do
them in a single day. It's hot out there now but in the winter and
spring, you even get to wheel in some snow and ice. There's dirt, water,
some rock crawling, steep climbs, whatever you want. Great spot, I
can't recommend it enough. smile.gif

jeepngirls - there is a spot close to you (that is now closed because of fire danger): Silverado Canyon. It has no challenge whatsoever, but you can go to the top of Saddleback for a nice view! The little mini-mart in Silverado Canyon sells great trail maps of the area. See this link for more information: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland
There is an OHV area in Azusa which is fun to go out and watch everyone get stuck in the mud. See http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/angeles/recreation/ohv-sangabriel.shtml
Also, if you know someone who is familiar with the area you can go down to Anza Borrego which is inland by the border. I will only go out there with a guide as the area is too big for me to navigate and too many illegals! (Nice area though and great back country camping). See: http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=638
My favorite area, not really in Southern CA is Death Valley. I have already spent about a month there from combined trips and I still haven't been on all the trails and I still haven't seen enough!

I suggest going to Hungary Valley out in Gorman, CA.
On weekends they charge $5 to get in. Its great, the trails are rated easy, novice, experienced, and expert.
The biggest badest trail is the Millers Jeep trail, its all the way on top the Los Padres, and I managed to go down and up it in a stock 2006 Jeep Rubicon unlimited, with 4 people and A/C running. :D
Its a blast though... I suggest getting on the 33 and going to Lockwood Valley road and getting on the Lockwood Creek Trail, and taking it to the Millers Jeep Trail. Its about a 6 hr trail, and it wouldnt be bad to take a buddy in another vehicle. Its real fun and really scenic. I hope you get to check out Gorman, good luck in finding other 4x4ing places.

:cool:Mojave Road. It starts on the border with Nevada and ends up in Barstow. There are some mild technical parts, but all technical parts have an easier bypass.
