I've got that weekend off. I am making it a date to get bored, so I'll have to occupy my time. Anyone up in middle Georgia want o get together? I put this on JU in the Trail Rides board, but it seems It might get more attention here.

Anyone who wants to get into this, please post. I'm open to suggestions to go somewhere for a one day ride. I'm waaaaaay down here in South Georgia, but I know I can get to the Macon, Forsyth or Savannah area easily enough for a day. If you know any good places to ride lemme know. Again, I'm open to suggestions.

Billy,
Rich Moumtain is in North Ga, Ellijay to be exact.

I would love to go back up there but they recommend not going during hunting season. We may have to pick somewhere else.

There is a new offroad park in Phenix City Alabama but I believe it is mainly for atv's.

I'll check it out this week and let everyone know.

If it were for the following weekend, Mike and I would definitely come, we will be heading to Daytona Beach then, and would be able to make a stop off anywhere on I75.

We will be leaving our place on the 21st or 22nd, so if anyone wants to meet and show us around, let me know. We would love to get some wheeling time in on our winter vacation.

eric

Teresia, Mike, are you guys bringin the jeep down?? If so, I would definitely love to go wheelin somewhere.. I am gonna get a few maps for Ocala Nat'l forest, which I've heard is pretty good from the locals, and the 2 big clubs around here go often.. So.. But, I've only been there once and went to the wrong places.. :D Its big, what can I say.. Anyway, let me know, if not we definitely gotta hook up and do dinner or something..

Well, everyone, I called about the 4X4 park in Phenix City Al. The lady said it is for atv's and motorcycles only and our "trucks" wouldnt make it through it.

I informed her we had JEEPS and she admitted that they would make it but they only allow atv's and motorcycles.

So anyway, that place is out. Anyone else have any ideas?

Well, by the way it looks, for most of us, anyway ... I would suggest somewhere in middle Georgia.

(Sorry I haven't been here ... my phone decided to take a break. After going by the telephone company's suggestion that it was something in my home causing the problem ... and unplugging everything from caller ID, to the alarm system ... THEN they find out, it's Bellsouth's problem.)

I know I could go up for a one day run, myself. Saturday, or Sunday would be best here.

(edit)

Didn't read it all, before posting. Would the following weekend be okay for you too, Billy? I know you have a screwy work schedule, so just let me know man.

I just noticed that Mike and Teresia are going to be heading this way, then.

Just a thought.

I am kinda new to the BB, but I live about 10 miles north of Macon. Everywhere I usually go is off limits due to hunting season. There are a couple of places I am checking into around the clayholes. If i found out anything I will post again later. It would be nice to meet everybody to put a face on some of these post I have been reading.

Paul, I'm working the following weekend.14, 15 &16, I'm off. Then the 23, 24 & 25 as long as they don't change it. (it's happened twice)

I left a note for Teresia about it.

******************************************

If nothing can be worked out, I may just go down to Jennings, Fl. Gotta check the level of the Alapaha River. If it's down, I'll go play in the sand down there.

Jim? When's the last time you checked it?

If nothing can be solidified, then may I suggest a grilling out or something? I want to get on a trail, but if there are a few of us who want to get together regardless of trail riding or not, I'm up for that as well.

Billy the Alapha has been dry most of the summer. Last time I crossed it on I-75 was about two weeks ago and it was dry as a bone. I can go down and check it out this weekend. Last time we were there was at night and we grilled out and had a blast!.

okay, here's just a suggestion, but I got a map of Ocala Nat'l Forest today (finally) and can find out some good trails from some people that go there a lot, and possibly get a trail guide to take us through there.. Well ... some central place would be good. It appears we have people as far as the Alanta area ... down to Orlando.

We could possibly do something at Ocala ... or just do a grill out thing too. I'm up for most anything, actually.

Eric, you are welcome to stay with us, here, if you want too (for a very competative hotel rate, of course! :D :D). j/k

Okay ... EVERYONE ... Party at Billy's HOUSE !! :D :D

Well, I dont have any compaints about that, but I don't see why anyone would drive all the way form ATL ...or Orlando for that matter... just to grill out here.

Just for info, parking is not an issue since there is an entire vacant lot next to my house. smile.gif

BTW... I went down to the river in Lakeland today. There is nothing going on down there. Couple of down-and-back runs in the sand and that's it. Jennings sounds promising, though. There is the possibility of going a few miles "up stream". Jim, let me know what you find.

For reference, ya'll, The entry point is a couple of miles south of Jennings, Florida on US41. Jennings is like.... 20 miles south of Valdosta I think.

Whadaya think of it? Any interest?

It looks like we will be leaving Indiana very early in the morning, 4or 5 a.m. on the 22nd. We are unable to bring the Jeep. :( We will be around Valdosta at 5 or 6 p.m. We will be in a dark blue 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. If y'all are getting together for a barbeque that day, or just want to meet us for supper somewhere, I know Valdosta and the surrounding area, (Ray City, Quitman, Savannah etc.) I lived there for 4 years. :D I will e-mail you our cell #'s, just in case. We will have Mike's "big" radio,(the one he uses in his truck with a linear, and can talk for miles and miles) with us. You can either holler for Shortchange or just use our screen names from the BB. Hope to get to meet some of y'all then. :D

I'll be checking with him in the next few days on it.

Billy,
Rich Mtn. does have some good wheeling. The hunting season will be in effect that weekend but it wont be doe days so that may cut down on the hunters. I'm not sure if it is regulated any differently since it is a "national forest".

Having been there I think we can safely "conquer" the mountain as long as no one wanders off throught the woods.

My vote is for Rich Mountain. :D

How about everyone else? PWP? Andy (oops - RedYJ)? River Rat?, 4bob4? dtchdr? anyone else?

Sean, I checked the DNR web site. It shows Dove day starting on the 16th. I'm gonna make a couple of phone calls and see what I can find out.

Dove hunting is usually in the edges of fields and clearings, so I don't know how it would affect us up there. Not familiar with the area.

Ellijay is close enough that I can drive up for a day and back that night. Souldn't be a problem. I don't go to bed until about 2AM anyway, so returning home at 0130 won't hurt my feelings. smile.gif

If I change my mind, I'm driving up the night before and spending the night up there somewhere. I may do that if the wife decides not to go. She's still thinking about it. ;)

I talked with the DNR Law Enforcement and also with the regional director with the Game Division. The WMA should be open. There are no big game hunts going on, and even though Dove hunting is opening on the 16th, They said it should not affect us.

So, does this mean we can start a "roll call" thread in a couple of days? :D :D
