View Full Version : Rich Mtn DEC 16... ROLL CALL!!!!!

OK. This is now (early) DEC 4,... so we're only days away. Post your name and if you're coming from far out, wether or not you wanna ride up to the Ellijay area on the 15th. That's what I'm doing, and I guess that's a good enough reason to ask. My wife will probably attend since my Mom is keeping the mental pat... er uh... Kids.
I can guess we're gonna take the "hard" section which a stock WJ can take... with a bit of finesse and time. Dixie Girl, I was advised you could make it. Anthony (JU ZJ board) recomended rocker protection, but said you could probably make it. That may change if it rains up ther alot. I'm all for it. As for the particulars, I have a winch and PWP has one, If he can make it. Allthough as dry as it's been, I doubt we'll need more than a strap.
I'll have my CB antenna back on the CJ before the run.

Wow I finally registered over here (Anthony from JU). I'll most likely be there with the woman. I will have a winch and some recovery gear also. If it's dry it's pretty easy if it's wet it can be very interesting.

I'm there Billy.
Not sure yet If I'm coming alone or with the wife and not sure what day I'll be going up, but I'll let you know.
BTW I heard you sing! :D :D

Having a party the night before. No way I can get away for the day after. I'll have some cleaning to do.
Sorry. I really want to go!!

eric, Sorry you can't make it. I am going to get with Jim (River Rat) on a run down in the Alapaha River in Jennings, Fl. That oughtta be close enough. The river bed is dry down there and is some fun wheelin'. I went alone the last time I went. It was fun... but not as good as it could've been. I'll let you know something.
Anthony, Great to have you on here. ;) You've been added to the list. Same for Sean.

Sounds sweet man.. Next time you wanna go, let me know.. I have strange days off, usually sundays and mondays, sometimes wednesdays, or tuesdays.. You get the idea, its screwed up.. Anyway, let me know man, its about 3 hours away from what I can tell, so I'd be up for it anytime...

Hey! I would love to go if I can catch a ride with someone.
I took my WJ up to Rich Mountain a few months back and barely made it through some spots (and it was raining). In order to tackle it again, I need some height and protection. (I've got a nice rocker dent now!)
I plan on getting Anthony's BB when him and I can coordinate our schedules! Good to see ya on the board Anthony!

4bob4, I'll keep ya on the "reserve". ;)
That's 7 Jeeps so far. I spoke with PWP by phone this evening. He's a had a couple of misfortunes lately... bad ones... I don't want to over-step my bounds, but Paul may not be able to attend. Eric, I'll make it a point to notify you on a date.
D/G... would be nice to see a WJ on the trail, but I understand your point. ;) (no pressure) :D :D

What time is the ride gonna be? Anyone interested in camping Saturday night if the weather is decent? Last December I ran RM and it was snowing. This year we'll be wearing shorts and sandals if winter doesn't hurry up and get here.

I think we should shoot for a 10:30am to 11:00am start time.
If I drive up that morning, I'll be leaving around 6:00am. If I stay up there saturday night, I'll want BREAKFAST! :D :D
How does that sound to everyone else?

I'm for about 10 or 10:30 start time. If we start too close to lunch, I get hungry and have donut cravings. If I don't get 'em, I tend to hit people with sticks and get real ugly....... ;)j/k :D
I'm staying in a hotel somewhere close to Ellijay. Lori will be with me, so a nice warm room will be in the mix for us. If she cancels on me, I have a sleeping bag.
I got one more buddy to check with toady. He traded his TJ a few weeks back for a new vehicle for his wife. He just called this morning telling me he just bought a '83 CJ7 with 35's on it! 'WHEW'! Thought I lost a Jeepin' buddy! smile.gif

There's a Dunkin Donuts in Newnan, it's off of 85, I can't remember the exit number though. Sean and I have met there the last couple of times we went to the mountain. From there we would pick up the others going up there also, on the way.
It works out really well. Last time we picked up Cliff, and cJay on the way.

Ok, heres the info on meeting places.
I'll probably be going up on Saturday evening and spending the night in a motel. (wife doesnt camp!)
We should all meet at 10:30am in the Arbys parking lot in Ellijay. It is on the main highway (highway 5 I believe) on the left hand side.
If 4ob4 and his friend drive up, they can meet Andy at the Dunkin Donuts in Newnan. (4bob4 email me with your phone # and I'll give you directions)
Everyone coming from or through Atlanta should meet at the Firestone on exit 7 off of highway 575 around 8:30am to make it to Ellijay by 10:30am.
If nayone needs any additional info, email me your # and I'll call you.
HTH
Sean
Okay ... I know everyone is going to think I am crazy. But, it is the weekend of the 15th/16th right?
If so, (I haven't read the above posts) is anyone going to be in a motel/hotel room? I will need to share some accommodations with others ... anyone else game? Maybe hook up and share a room? Whatever ... if you would, e-mail me, about it. If I can do that, I will make a definite effort, to go.
I just don't want to drive up there, (slowly, in a Jeep, so about 5-6 hours), then go wheelin' ... just to have to go back home, that night.

is 8:30 a joke?? heh, i can make that trip in 45 mins... maybe its because im young... if anyone is up for keeping up with me, which is about 70-75 the whole way there, i would like to meet up with them about 9:00 just incase... but if not, i will meet whoever is going to firestone at firestone because it is safer to travel in packs :D
who is meeting at the firestone?
im going topless and doorless again, doesnt matter what the weather is.

I remember the first time we met there, it took us quite a while before we pulled out. Gives us plenty of BS time.
I might go w/out doors as well, probably leave the hard top on though.
Ryan
I'm with chite5b. 2hrs. to get from Canton to Ellijay. Are we planning on taking the scenic route? That should put us in Ellijay around 9:30. Which is OK then everybody can disconnect, air down, b.s. whatever and we can still hit the trail at a reasonable time.
So who's camping, anybody?

12-06-2001, 01:20 PM
What i meant to say was if everyone leaves Firestone around 8:30am, we will be able to hit the trail around 10:30am.

Teresia and I surely can't make it down there for this run, but I have a week of vacation planned for May 25, 2002 and we are trying to plan a trip to somewhere during that week. Where is Rich Mt. located? It might be a place that we can plan to wheel next spring. I think I may have a way to transport the Jeep down there by then, since Atlanta is about a 11 hour drive. (not in a Jeep  ) From our house its about 560 miles. Mike

Rich Mtn is locted in Ellijay Ga. North part of the state near the Tenn. line. It's part of the Cherokee National Forest. Pretty good wheeling.
Let us know if you'll be coming down in May, maybe we can do a day at Rich Mtn. and a day at Tellico.

Weeeellll ... it looks as though ol' Paul won't be makin' it.
Here's the deal:
I won't have my son Woody, until December 25th, at 7:30pm. He is flying in, from Texas that day. He is going to be with me, from then until January 7th.
Anyway, he mentioned that he would like to go back up to Tellico, while visiting with me. I just can't let the little feller down.
I know of a couple of people, who are supposed to be going up to Tellico, from the 26th to the 28th. Now, since I can't afford to go on both runs, I had to make this change. I do sincerely apologize guys/gals. I know I would have had a great time with you.

What can I say.
Yeah, it was pretty interesting.
Karen was trying to get thru the hardest spot in here WJ when it started, so I had to run up the hill to put my top up as well as get my shovel and a saw to get a dead tree out of the way and try and get her Jeep thru the now raging torrent of water. I know my jeans were soaked, ruined my belt, and I think the other Ryan (jeepxjga) ruined his checkbook. But we did eventually get her thru and all of us made it to the end of the trail.
I don't think we will have as much of a struggle since there won't be any stockers ;) and we have the experience of just go ahead a strap them.

That's fine with me as laong as they go last...
Every time I get stuck it's from ruts dug by tires bigger than mine. Axles end up grounded.

Ruts shouldn't be a big problem at RM. There are already wash-out ditches everywhere. If it keeps raining up there and rains on Sunday like the forcast says it's gonna be sloppy and having something chew up the mud helps a lot with traction.
I ran this last winter and couldn't get up a certain obstacle there but then some locked Landrovers came in and chewed everything up pretty well and I walked right up it after that.
Oh yeah, we're not planning on doing the whole trail are we? I would like to just go up the mine side and turn around at the top and come back down. More fun and less tedious, boring driving.

ARBY's....
10:30...ish... ;)
CB ch4 on Sunday? I'll be monitoring. I did check the antenna with the new base. The best I could get is 2.5:1 SWR between ch20 and 21. I really need to get a new antenna. :(
I'm pretty much packed up! All the tools are in the ZJ. I put the correct connector on the York, so I can have some air if need be. :D Also have the impact wrench, but since I have no air tank, it's only good for really short bursts. (I only have a 50ft hose right now...)
See you ALL Sunday Morning. Sean. See ya tomorrow evening. smile.gif

Well wouldn't you know it I probably won't make it. I picked up a good frinds mother last night and she is not doing well at all. So I am probably going to hang around for him. I hope everybody has a great time and take some pics. I will shoot for the next GA trail ride.

Nice pics Andy, thanks for posting the link.
We just got back a little while ago. I think my left front hub is toast. :( :( Sound familiar?
I had to limp home doing about 10 mph for the last 6 miles to my house. Jeep was acting funny on I-85 on the way home, pulled over and couldnt find any thing wrong. Made it to my favorite BBQ joint when it started squeeling like a live pig thrown on the grill!!
I'll try to figure whats wrong with it later.
I enjoyed the trip though and enjoyed everyone company.

Lori and I got home about an hour ago. One Jeep short, but we made it.
To all that made it, the ride was a blast. I'll have all my pics uploaded later, but for now...
A gratuitous pic of me... smile.gif :D
