View Full Version : Jersey Mud Bog Run

Piney
11-26-2001, 03:38 PM
Well it’s raining now and supposed to rain four of the next 5 days. Looks like the bogs will start to fill if the forecast is correct and we will have some MUD! Winter will be here before most of us will have a chance to get out again before the snow runs start, so get ready.
Many of you have been on trail rides with me in the past. This will NOT be a trail ride it will only be for the purpose of playing in the mud and the only trail rides will be from bog to bog. Your chance of getting stuck will run around 100% so make sure you have tow points and aren’t afraid of getting mud in your underwear.
I’m going to be locked up into next year and want to make one last run with open diff’s before the winter mods start.
DECEMBER 2ND, SUNDAY @ 10:00 @ The Pic. :D

Wherever Piney goes I will go, but if it is mud and climbs we are looking for we could meet with the other guys at Forked River. It all depends on how much rain we get here this week. Anyway, I'll see ya'll Sunday.

Hey guy's I'm open to forked river if it is something new and has some challenges. You want to get one giant, humongus earth leveling ride? I'm up for it. I just thought they had pits down there...sorry if I was wrong...lets do it! :D

I am definately up for a HUGE ride. Forked River is very fun, and should be alot more fun if we get some rain this week. There was some spots where there looked to be HUGE bogs that got dried out, hopefully they will all be full.

Forked River, from what I remember, is a very fun place to play. There are steep climbs, decent mud holes, and the hog-nastiest-if-you-wants-to-mire-a-tank holes also. Tractor tires are required for the deeper stuff.
I would be up for Forked River, beings I have not been there with the Wrangler yet.
Piney, let me know what you want to do, and maybe we can have an alternative meeting place so we can all follow each other to where we will be meeting the other group.

MuddyJeepZJ
11-26-2001, 11:54 PM
Well since this is getting crazy how about we all meet at the Pic at 10am and do there then whoever wants to head to Forked River can if you guys are still up for it. Piney know the way through the woods to get there? Hit the Hidden Lakes on the way too?

Piney
11-27-2001, 08:46 AM
Here is what I posted on JU:
I'm sooooo confused!
To answer some questions:
Yes, I know the way through the woods from Pic's to Hidden Lakes and then down to Forked River Mountain Sanctuary, but have never actually found the “mountain”. That is an all day ride, so that is out. If we had stucks on the way we would never make it.
As far as the mud run, the forecast has changed and now we aren’t expecting any significant rain so we may as well rule that out.
My opinion is that we all meet somewhere like Hidden Lakes, wheel there for a while and then go through the woods to Forked River Mountain. We need someone who knows the Forked River Mountain area better than me though. I can get you there, but I never found any neat places to wheel in the area. We will need a native of the area….where are you natives?
Yes, I wheel all year and my favorite time is when we have about 8-10” of snow. Only draw back is breaking through 4-5” of ice in a water hole. The ice breaks things just like rocks.

Piney,

Hidden Lakes sounds good to me! Hopefully we'll get some decent snow this year and we can schedule some snow runs. I like playing Ice Station Zebra in the pines :D :D

MuddyJeepZJ

Hidden lakes sounds good to me, what time are we going to meet there? I know all about Forked River since I live there. I'll take everyone to the mountain.

MuddyJeepZJ
11-27-2001, 01:05 PM
The guys that want to meet at Forked River can follow me there to the Hidden Lakes . That is also for the guys who are coming from the Parkway exit 74. We are meeting right off the exit. Then the guys from the south can meet at Pics then meet us at the Hidden Lakes at don't know what time yet? Sounds good to everyone?

Hey guys just wondering if anyone from PA. is going.Or if someone can tell me the best way to get to were you all are meeting. Im coming from levittown pa.I was suppost to go wheeling over here in pa again this weekend but have been dieing to see forked and river and the hidden lakes. Thanks

Piney
11-27-2001, 02:21 PM
Sounds good to me! I can meet anyone who doesn't know how to get to Hidden Lakes at the Pic @ 10:00. The quickest way out is to drive to Chatsworth and out across 72, but whatever, thru the woods or by road we can be there by 11:00ish. With those two locations we should get our fill of climbs and washouts...sounds good.

MuddyJeepZJ
11-27-2001, 05:17 PM
Confusion is great. Meeting by the parkway for the guys that are coming from there at 10am. Then off we go to meet up with the guys coming from the Pic. Any questions just ask here or email me.

I see posts during working and sleeping hours that amaze me. Pathetic, isn't it?
I know we can't ALL have the glamorous life of Piney-semi-retired with so much cash he couldn't possibly spend it all! :D

Maybe someday.

Excuse me, but I seem to be bored with this glamorous lifestyle I lead and am now going to explore poverty and Meow Mix. I just ordered a new digital camera from Amazon that, hopefully, will be here by Sunday. Now I have to figure out how to take pictures of myself while doing my daring, stupendous acts of bravery behind the wheel. Since I have NEVER been stuck or even slowed by an obstacle this will be difficult. BTW, I just installed mud terrains and a new Warn on my walker.

11-29-2001, 11:10 AM
Don't worry Piney, I'll take pictures of you if you bring that super walker with ya...

Right now, I'm questionable for Sunday - I'm moving shortly (to Flanders), and have soooo much crap to do between now and 12/15. I'm going to try my hardest to make it, but don't count on me.

Zach, if you don't mind, bring the pitman arm puller, so I can borrow it if I make it. Bump steer sucks!

I just wanted to say that I had a great time last Friday. As many times as I've been to the Pine Barrens I still managed to see some new stuff and meet some great guys. I would love to go this Sunday but I'll be working. It should be nice and sloppy with the rain we've finaly been getting. If anybody is planning any wheelin' for the following weekend count me in. I'm mounting new tow hooks so I'll have a tow point. Piney your knowledge of those woods is amazing. Any time you plan on wheeling let me know I'm off a lot during the week!......Mike -white 95 Wrangler 5" lift, 33"MT's,4.0,5spd,4:10's much more done with more to come.....

I'm going to try my best to make it. I've really got to fix my rear drum brakes since I'm going through inspection on thursday and that was the only thing that failed the first time through. My stupid axle seal is leaking and soaking the brake shoe. But if its done I meet whoever's going to be at the pics @10. If not then I be out next time.

Yup, a lot of fun! Trying to get 24 jeeps up that climb on "the mountain" was an experience. George and Zach missed their calling by not becoming ditch diggers. They were real pro's with the shovel. The impromptu disco was also pretty special.
I marked it on the gps and want to go back and check out some of those other quad trails. Looks like some fun climbs. Should try it with some snow on the ground...total carnage!

A guy named Adam was driving the blue YJ that rolled--it is a very well setup rig and he was just playing when it rolled--kid of trying to roll it from what I heard.
Ryan did get out by winch, but sucked water so had to get it running again-it sounds OK now, and yes, his seats still work--yuppie ZJ!!
:D

And Pags, I brought the darn Pitman Arm puller too, you sucker!

JeepManInNJ

If you didn't make it you sure missed a good time. Ryan was stuck and Zach (strapman) got him out. I believe it was pretty wet but got it dried out and going. The guy who rolled the Jeep I don't know but he has a mean Jeep and put on quite a show. He was climbing everything in sight! That jeep was pretty much unstoppable.... :D

I just joined in. Have a 1990 YJ all stock, however I expect to have a new Weber and TFI on by New Years day. Been runnin like poop for toooo long. My Wrangler has 12 years experience on the beaches from here to Hateras, but never been muddy. I'dlike to play in the mud a time or two just for ya ya's. Let me know next time you have an outing going on, I'll try to make it. Live in Strathmere, NJ

The performance mod's won't make much difference off road, but being stock won't be a great hindrance either. Long as you aren't running street tires and have tow mounts front and rear you should get through a lot and what you don't we can yank you out.
