The 3rd annual Muscular Dystrophy Offroad for Hope III is coming up soon, February 1-3 (Friday night through Sunday). Located in Southern California near San Diego, Ocotillo Wells is a gorgeous part of the desert with offroading to suit everyone from beginners to hardcore alike. Starting Friday night and ending Sunday, it's a BLAST!!! Lots of sponsors giving away lots of prizes at the drawing after the big Saturday night barbeque dinner. There are so many prizes being given away that the drawing takes probably nearly two hours! Prizes include sets of offroad tires, winches, an Atlas II transfer case, axles, suspension lift kits, fenders, wheels, cool offroad accessories, clothing, you name it.
Hey... talk about winning stuff at the MDA run, I won a 2-speed Milemarker 10,500 lb winch at this event two years ago and around $300 worth of stuff last year!! Get your share of the fun and prizes for a good cause, support the kids with MDA by registering for and going to the MDA Offroad for Hope III!

You get to go off-roading AND help out kids!
Sounds like everybody at this event will be a winner to me!

Jerry~
Keep us posted. I would like to go but I will need to know cost and when, and if there is a place that I can set up the tent trailer for my family. It sounds like a great event for my first organized run.
TIA

The dates are February 1-3, a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There are some Friday night runs like a Poker run but most of the runs take place Saturday. There's a big bbq dinner with maybe a band Saturday night with the big prize drawing after dinner (dress warmly!). Sunday gets into some serious rock crawling competition which is great for spectators too.
Donations vary according to vehicle type but Jeeps and other normal 4x4 vehicles are $35 plus $5 for the optional breakfast and $8 for the great Saturday evening BBQ dinner.
Go to http://www.mdasandiego.com/mda_off_road.html for full information.
I kid you not people this is a worthwhile and VERY FUN event. There are trails for beginner and hardcore offroader alike. Do a favor for the MDA kids eh?
Steve, there are plenty of big spaces for whatever kind of rig you want to park. The place is huge and you won't have to pay to park your rig even if it's huge.

Peter, you ought to round up the relatives and come on out to Southern California. Don't you owe them a trip to Disneyland or something? Of course on the way you'd HAVE to do the MDA event! :D
Thanks for the BTT!

This will be the 4th year we have gone. The first year during lunch we got a free airshow as we were where the Blue Angles practice. Last year they added rock crawling on Sunday. http://hometown.aol.com/j762538/johnsdirtypage.html

Well you can but nothing happens there so there isn't much to see. All the trail riding is done by driving in caravans out to whatever trail each participant signed up for. They're selected by driver experience and how well the vehicle is set up, like whether lockers or big enough tires are present. Most runs are fairly remote and it's a participant type event that isn't set up for spectators.
Heck just bring your ride and go offroading yourself! There are beginner runs to for those that are not yet sure of their skills but want to in a safe and supportive (really) atmosphere.

To get you in the vicinity, it's maybe 20 miles Southeast of the city of Borrego Springs and Ocotillo Wells itself is right on Highway 78. If that doesn't get you near enough, let me know and I'll give you more thorough directions. But basically, just get on I-15 towards San Diego and get off in Escondido, and head towards Warner Springs, cutting off towards Borrego Springs onto S-22 to 78, then head East.

You can only watch the lineups but you can look at the vendors and watch the rockcrawling on Sunday.
It was another great year, food lines were slow but we won about $700 worth of stuff.
