anyone interested in a "mild" outing this weekend? i will be able to go down the pines on saturday. i know there are some new people here and there with stock rigs that want to check out the pines. if none of the "veterans of the pines" can go, im willing to try and get some people lost with the aid of my compass and gps. i would expect it to be wet with all the snow melting.

Would love to go, but my ride is at the Zachv off-road center and bagel shop. Will probably be a few weeks for me. Watch out then! :D
BTW green, no fair using your gps to map all my trails and make me obsolete.

Yeah, Pineys truck is on jackstands being violated! It will emerge as the Beast of the Pines and whoop butt in the mud. I figure a sbc350, T18, Atlas and SOA on 38 TSL SX's with spools in the Dana 60's should be unstoppable. Oh, thats right, we are not on POR ;)
Piney,
Can't you ride shotgun with someone so we'll have a guide?
What exactly are you guys "really" doing to that thing?
I'm still waiting for my Locker/hubs to come in (sometime in Feb). Gotta be ready for the spring!

(1)Nope, I have to be in complete control at all times. Besides, green is taking over my position as soon as he dries up that moisture behind his ears. LOL! Kidding green,I didn't forget that I only come up to your shoulders.
(2)WE, arent doing anything, Zach is. You guy's do know that he is probably the best jeep mechanic in South Jersey, don't you? A bit on the expensive side, but if you want the best...
(3)Lockrite,new spring lift and probably the 34x9.50 swampers that you have seen around.

does this mean i wont be able to follow you anymore to map out trails with my gps? :( by the time i winch myself out of the holes you will be on to tackling the next turtle.

you guys are realy stacking on the mods, im gonna have to spend some money on my jeep to keep up with you all on the trail. a guy i know from up state is selling a 60's something willys pu with a 307??? v-8 in it. i should snag that, but where the heck do you get parts to fix it? im sure it has lots of neat drivetrane stuff in it. zach, i could try to get some info on it if you think those older trucks have any parts you may want for your project truck. all i know about it now is its red and its loud :D
if there arent too many people interested in going i might take a ride down anyway and do a little bit of exploring. ill probably drive by the pic around 10ish and see if anyone shows up.

There is a small possibility that I may be there. The lift portion of the mod should be done, but we don't know if our weekend houseguests are still coming, or not. I'm kind of up in the air.

Kind of spoke with Ryan - they're planning a hidden lakes and other places run Saturday - meeting off of Exit 74 on the parkway at 10:00 am.
Should we consolidate the runs, or brave the pines on our own?
I'm still a maybe for saturday...might need to take the dirtbike out instead!

Hey Guys. Thanks for the invite GreenTJ, but I cant make it on Saturday (payback is a beeotch). I am helping one of my friends move. I will (I promise) make it out with your guys very soon. I have been to the pines twice but that was with a bunch of people who had no idea what they were doing. They spent most of the day trying to take "cool pictures" while going WAY TOO FAST into water. I sat and watched. They lost 1 Bronco II and 1 YJ that day. Anyway, enough rambling. I'll make it soon. (With one of you real guides this time)

i will definitly be there too. i have a friend of mine that might go and he is trying to recrute a few of his old college buddies too. this friend is a tad slow sometimes, so ill kick him a few times to get him there as early as possible. ill remind him of the hooters girl jeep wash and wax afterwards to get him moving
Damn - two runs in one day!!!! Perhaps the pines clan can meet the Exit 74 clan at Hidden Lakes sometime in the afternoon? I can't resist a run with Piney, so I think I'll be at the Pic at 10 - Plus I want to see mods!

I just got mine installed last week. Can't wait to talk to jeepers instead of truckers.

pineys jeep worked awsome! he broke a bead or something on one tire. we werent exactly sure what happened, he turned around and it was flat. he jacked up his jeep and then pumped the tire up and it worked the rest of the day.

Piney's rig did really good. There was a couple of times that it looked like he was going to get stuck then he dug in and popped right our the other side. He was the only one that didn't need to be towed or winched out.

i think all that use hurt my battery slightly. the engine turned over a little slower than normal this morning. (could have been my imagination though.) if it keep doing that, i think im gonna visit sears on pay day and get one of those 900cca batteries i was checking out.
EDIT: i think i might snag a set of jumper cables too, since i dont own any. pags brought that up when got mud? wouldnt start.

Get an Exide or Optima Yellow top deep cycle battery--they are about $170, but worth it. I went with the Exide because if I have any warranty needs the dealers are more plentiful.
I usually have a set of cables in every vehicle I own, whether for me or someone else. Funny thing is Got Mud? is running like a dream again, and I didn't do a thing to her!
Going to start compiling a list of things I need on the trail...
I'll pitch in a few bucks for a new battery if you need it since you pulled my butt out a few times!
Awesome video - note the Green wasn't wearing his seatbelt on the one whole, and got thrown into the top when the front left bottomed hard! Awesome!

good to hear GotMud? is running good.
dont worry about the battery and $$$, the one i have is getting due to be replaced anyway.
the shot of me with no seatbelt is funnier if you look closely when i play it back on the tv, my face has the i just pooped my pants look.

should i get an exide deep cycle? or just a regular excide? it is a daily driver and i was wondering how the deep cycle is for that application. if i get 3 more years out of a battery ill be plenty happy with it. especially all the use it gets.
Piney
01-28-2002, 10:33 AM
I don't know why you couldn't use a marine deep cycle, which are a lot cheaper. I know I had a bank of them to service the house needs on my boat and they lasted for a long time before replacement.
The flic with green bouncing off the roof is priceless!
zachv
01-28-2002, 03:08 PM
The yellows are marine Deep Cycle batteries, but the two mentioned are both "gell cell" batteries which means they will not spill acid all over the place while on the trail. They are fine for daily driver duties-I have had mine for a few months now. They save you from having to swap to a high output alternator if you are only running your winch a few times a week.
