I want to organize a trip to the Badlands on October 26th. My Dad has never been offroading before and it's his birthday so I'm going to take him out to the Badlands. I'd like to get a decent size group to go - so who's in???

Meet at 9am at the usual place by the shelter we usually eat lunch at. (Just North of the entrance road and East of the main building for those of you who don't know)

OK... roll call. Here's the list:

gonna be there:
Jeepin' Rock Climber
WickedWild
JeepGrl97TJ
Teresia & Mike
wolfe1
binfordw
WJ Pebbz
Jeeper4Life
Alpine
JeepGirl99
Tinknocker
RedTJ
ImperialFleet
Chris O'Neill
All My Needs
Hoosier Daddy
TmbrRtlr
Van3

wussing out: :D :D
bya72 (wife controls the keys)
jkirisits (wedding more important than Jeeps)
Maggie & TJChick (apparently it's raining babies cuz they're going to a shower)

Actually I was hoping to take my parents in the fall (they love the leaf change). That and I owe it to them; my life in the womb was spent riding with my mom in their CJ7.

We could make it a "Bring Your FAMILY Wheeling" event for those of us that are a tad bit older. Parents, children, spouses, significant others, and random people you hooked up with the night before are welcome.

I will have to see how I am feeling at that juncture as I will be 7 months pregnant at that time.  I could fit right into this whole bring your parent theme though, cuz munchkin is bringing me!
I will have to get back on this one once the date comes closer.

Hey I hooked up with some of you guys on the 9/7 trip, and am itching to go back, so if the schedule works out I will be there (at least for the green trail and quarry). Thanks to everyone for letting us tag along on the 7th, and I hope to see you all on the 26th.

-Ed-Glad you had a good time... welcome to the board! I'd recommend getting some quick disconnects on your Jeep -- you'll notice a huge difference next time you're out!

binfordw
09-18-2002, 10:26 PM
OR- if your cheap like me,

Just remove the front swaybar and try it- Im sure you'll never want your swaybar connected while offroad again- then you can buy disconnects if you want.

RedTJ
09-18-2002, 11:28 PM
I am hoping to get the quick disconnects, but figure if Santa doesn't deliver early I will bring the wrench with to pull them at the badlands and put them back in before I leave. Is it a major job to get them rebolted?

I'd go ahead and bust the bolts loose now, make sure you can get the links off the actual bar- the links are pressed in the bar and can be a pain to get out.

I took the whole thing off because of that reason, and just never have felt the need to put it back on ;) Course I dont drive like Mario Andretti either-

just taking the bottom bolts out is what I was thinking about. I think I will play with it this weekend and see how it goes. maybe test it out on one of the car ramps I have and see how much better it is. I tried the cement blocks at the badlands and didn't get very far before I ran out of stroke.

I might be able to make on the 26th. A few unexpected mods have left me broke. So I have to wait to see what the funds are like. But I want to try a few new things out before winter.

I got most of my mods for less than half of what it would have cost me buying new. Just found out that the better half has plans for me that weekend, so I am out. The next weekend I have free looks to be in Nov sometime. Till then the jeep stays on the road. :( But that will just make the next wheeling trip that much sweeter. Besides, I am stil trying to recover what I spent. haha

SOA is "spring over axle". A common way to lift YJ's by having the springs go over the axle instead of under the axle. It is good for about 5 inches of lift. TJ's cannot do it, only leaf sprung jeeps.

Yeah, thanks Aaron. No problem. It's usually a bad idea to let me lead because I tend to see a turn off, decide that I can make it and go for it, abandoning the trail and all sense of where I am in the park.

hey y'all watch this! Hmmm... how's that redneck joke go? :D

WOOHOO!!!! i'm gonna get a GOOD test of the new 32" tsl's smile.gif

no more bypasses for me smile.gif

although, i have to say, in my 5 times that i've been to the badlands, 4 were bone stock, with the stock GS/A's, and the last one i had only added the daystar 2" spacers.. so there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with running stock through green OR orange.. wickedwyld and alpine have both run stock YJ's through green and orange CONNECTED.. it's the man, not the machine..

but the swampers ain't gonna hurt ;)

Hello all. This is Bill from Indy Jeepers. I won't be running on their OFFICIAL runs anymore, but I know some of you guys from the club;(Gettle, Aaron, Dave) and wish to run with you guys in the future when I get my own Jeep in Jan/Feb after my divorce is final. I love XJ's and not ruling them out, but it's time for a Wrangler!

well, it looks like I SHOULD be there. I have to work the Haunted House at VWMC fridaynight, I took saturday off so that we could go out for my sister's B-day, well, she has a pagent, so now I can go to Badlands. And since it appears that there will be people staying in Fortville then it appears that I will just leave work and make the short drive over to Mike &T's, the only catch is that I probably won't get off work til 2am, So I'll just sleep in my buddy's truck out in the road (yeah, my jeep is gonna be a trailer king for that weekend, don't want to risk anything).

DereckVan- you're near Castleton right? I'm planning on leaving about 7:00 - 7:15 from my place. I'm on 82nd & Allisonville. If you want to meet up that's cool. I usually take 465 - 65N - 32W - 74 W - Exit 15 off of I-74 - Badlands. That saves the drive halfway around the circle to 74 which shaves 10 minutes off the drive.

Why go all the way over to I-74? Come convoy with us. You'll like this route! It's more direct. (From the northside)

Plus it's cool to have a really big convoy of Jeeps! :D

Dave,

Take I-69 to 37N. Take that to SR32 and turn left.
Jim Dandy is about 100 yards on the left.

Or just sleep in a little and meet us in Attica! smile.gif

BillHowdy Bill. The run was great -- we had like 28 Jeeps show up by my count. Good times were had by all (except those that got broken).

And as usual, Aaron's Jeep doesn't have a spec of dust on it. :D

Hmmm... is it a good thing when you go to your Jeep Club's meeting and the president walks in and tells you that you need to clean your Jeep? :D :D

But, as you might recall, I took on some obstacles that nobody else was willing to do. In addition, I overcame obstacles that a locked YJ with 33" BFG MTs couldn't tackle, which I rack up to driving skill not the rig.

I had a blast, and as usual the day ended way too quickly. And yes I hardly got muddy at all! :D My favorite part was the 4lb chunk of rock I chiseled off of the quarry wall with my front bumper that was wedged in so hard I needed a hammer to remove it.
