View Full Version : Turkey Run 2002

Ok people have been talking about it, and asking me if there will be a "Second" annual Turkey Run.
Teresia and I have discussed it a few times in the last week, and figure that since it was such a great success last year, that why not again this year.
Now would be a good time to start planning for it if we want it to happen.
I know some people will be going out of town for thanksgiving, so to give them a fair chance to make the run, we might be wanting to plan the weekend either before, or after the actual holiday.
This will no doubt be the last run of the year for some folks, so lets try to plan it so we can get as many involed as possible.
So, any sugestions on what date?
T-shirts?
Any input will be more than welcome.
Remember 2001 was the first, so 2002 will be #2.
Funny how that came about. :D
Just for Boston Wrangler tongue.gif
The Turkey Run will take place at the Attica Badlands offroad park. Happy now? :D

I vote for the weeeknd before. The weekend of thanksgiving is going to spent a few miles from Turkey Bay at my sister's new house. The first weekend in Dec works for me as well. I just hope my jeep gets back on the road by then. The way things are going, who knows if that will happen.

Todd, I will be jeepless when down there. My dad wont take the 6 hour drive down in my jeep with 2 big labs in the back. So we have to take his car, unless ofcourse it looks like we will have an early snow storm or something.haha My sister wil put on a big guilt trip if we don't make it down there.

That sucks but I'm not sure two grown men, two large dogs, luggage, etc... would even FIT in a TJ. :D And even if it would, I sure wouldn't want to spend 6 hours on the road like that!

Update on schedule......
After talking to some people on-line/and off..
I have found that most would like it on the weekend of the 30th of November, which is the weekend of Thanksgiving, and also the same weekend that we had it last year.
I'm sure that Teresia and I will be having a little "HaHa" get together here on the night of the 29th (Friday) for people coming in for the night before the run.
http://bbb.quadratec.com/ubb/icons/icon40.gif Now..just to make it perfectly clear....
If people are wanting us to get 2nd annual Turkey-Run T-shirts for the run...we will be open for design ideas, and we "MUST" have the order, and design picked and into the printer no later than "2 weeks" before the run. (shirt color also)
I will talk to the printer about a deffinate last order date to be sure of it, and post it here for all to know.
TIA... Mike & Teresia smile.gif

From what Teresia has said in the past, the colored designs on t-shirts cost a LOT more than black and white. (No gray either!)
I love that cartoon though. Maybe someone can Photochop the color out.
Or maybe we could get a picture of a turkey driving a Jeep! :D

kelJust the park entry fee....all the comraderie is free! I think park is $15/day, or two days for $25. Otherwise, just bring your lunch, and something non-alcoholic to drink, and be prepared to wheel with some of the best people you ever met :D :D :D
And let me be the first to welcome you to the board!!

Kel, the trails are pretty tough. You may want to start at Oz and practice before you head to Attica.
If you are interested in going to Attica, there are a lot of good peeps to help you on your first time out there. (except that Chuck guy!! He's a CREEP!! :D :D ;) hehehe Hi, Chuckles!!)

Hi...
I have been busy this summer and would love to come down there and wheel witcha. Maybe I can get something together by then. You're talkin the 16th-17th? I could probably make it.
Busy really aint the word. My 3rd baby was born this past week on the 2nd. Mr Ethan Robert. Had his first Jp ride on the way home from the hosp in momma's ZJ.

Suz, are you trying to scare the new guy off? geeze..
Kel, you are more the welcome to come, Badlands has a wide array of trails ranging from easy to "i'm not even going to try this one". Like was mentioned early, $15 for entry fee to the park, then whatever for your food and drink. Event T-shirts will probably be $15 or less, and guess what, there may even be prizes! :D :D Also Welcome to the board, kick back and stay awhile...

kelWere are you coming from?
We will probably have a pre-run party here, and everybody is always invited.
It's the night before the run.
Don't worry about getting around the trails, we have alot of people who can help new people there.
And we always have alot of recovery equipment along with us.
If you plan to join-in, and want to meet some of the Jeepers at the night before party...just get in-touch with us for directions.

Kennedy--I don't think I've met you but the peeps who do know me know that I am always willing to help out someone new. I DO know Kel. She lives here. I've been wheeling with her and know her concerns out on the trails in her vehicle. The things we have wheeled on here in Missouri together that scared the bejesus out of her is not EVEN close to the green trail at Attica. I was simply inviting her to come to the Oz events and wheel and practice so she'd be ready to rumble when she gets there AND didn't want her to get in over her head and be miserable the whole weekend because it wasn't what she expected. I guess I should have explained that better. Sorry. :(

I've been the new guy out on the trail before and it definately can be intimdating. Hopefully I'll meet you on the fun.
Kel, So you wheel a WJ? thats is cool, my dad has a ZJ, one thing that you definately would want before going to badlands would be some sort of rocker protection. Kevin's Jeep Parts (http://www.kevinsjeepparts.com) has alot of good stuff for Grands, and links to other Grand sites. Maybe I'll see ya on the run smile.gif

I don't sleep well with others. Actually I take that back, there is one person I sleep well with but no one else.
As for battle scars, I am paying WAY to much for that vehicle as it is to get it all dented up. Scratches can be hidden very well. Dents can't be disguised. I like to wheel but not so dang hard I have damage. I'm a grocery getter!

I will be attending too, I need a bit of information though. I am going to be bringing my little brother of 12 years his first trip, I think that I need a permission form of some type to get him into the park. Right? Also need the number for a local hotel there, any suggestions? BTW I am from St. Louis too but will be visiting Chicago for the holiday and have never been to the Badlands, but I have heard great things about it. I think I will be driving down sat. morning early and just staying in the hotel on Sat. night. Thanks everyone in advance and can't wait to see ya there.

Welcome to the board Gavin!
You can find the rules and lodging info on the Badlands website:
http://www.badlandsoffroad.com
I think most people stay at the Attica Inn.
Here is their policy on underage riders:
NO one under the age of 18 is permitted to check-in with out a parent or legal guardian here on the property. No other adult may check you in!! Must be a parent or legal guardian!! Or you may get wavier and consent form mailed or faxed to you have it filled out by a parent or guardian and have them both NOTARIZED. Both forms must be notarized to be excepted. Bring both forms with you when you check into office. You still must be accompanied by someone who is at least 18yrs of age or older. We stand behind this strongly. ID may be required if age is in question.
See ya there! smile.gif
Got room for one more? I haven't gotten out since I meet some of you on a run back in July.

Hey, Gavin!! The HotelAtticaInn is right there in Attica. It's an old 3 story hotel that is being remodeled. NOT the Sheraton, but a cool place to stay. There will be quite a few peeps there from St. Louis (Midwestjeepthing) and they have a pool table/game room where we can all hang out and play pool at the end of the day....AFTER showers!! haha
You are most welcome to join us.
By the way, you may want to bring written permission for your brother, but I think if you are over 18, you may sign for him. Don't take my word for it, though. Contact Lisa at the Badlands to make sure.
See ya there.

hello all!
I am a friend of Sue and me and my girlfriend plan on comming out and playing with y'all this weekend.
I just had a few quick questions though...
what time will it all start? friday morning/afternoon, Saturday morning? I was just seeing if I had to skip out on T-day dinner with my family or not.
Also I have a '99 XJ lifted 3" and rolling on 31's. Hopefully I'll have some sliders by then.
Cheers.
Oh and I'd prolly be in for two tee's, whatever is cool with me as long it says where it was and somthing about 4-wheeling, instead of just a big turkeybird.
Cheers

Gavin, the peeps from St. Lou usually head over Thursday night (T-giving), run and play on Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday morning (if the BREAKAGE Gods shine on us and everyone is in one piece) then head home. There will be plenty of peeps there going on various levels of trails. smile.gif

I agree with Smitty 110%
we should get a list or something written up of trail leaders and let people sign up under them and what trail they will be doing in the morning.. and after lunch.. something like that..
Maybe some people want to volunteer to be trail guides?? pick certain trails?? whatever..
We waste a lot of time just sitting out there BS'ing, and then waiting for everyone to get there, then finally trying to split in groups, and this and that.. Not to say this isn't fun, but if we can eliminate something to save time, and get on a trail by 10:30am, I think the trail and trail leader selection could be done before hand..
any other thoughts?? sorry for rambling, just kinda tired, and pumped about the upcoming run :D

I will volunteer to organize things.
Just e-mail me with what you prefer to run...green..orange etc...and if you want to be a trail "boss" or not. We will also need tailgunners. So let me know. Also, let me know if you are new to this or have some experience.
Also,...I think we will do the door prize things at lunch, say between 12 and 1...with 1 being the start of the drawing...that way everyone can be present.
Also...instead of writing the names on little pieces of paper this year...I am going to get tickets, the duplicate kind, and everyone will get them from me.
Thanks.....I cant wait to see everyone this year.

From the people that have e-mailed me..it looks like 5 groups of 7.
Can anyone else lead a trail so we can have smaller groups?? If not, 7 is a pretty good number.
Cant wait to see y'all.

OK, I am still in. I will be driving down Fri. morning with my little brother. I plan on staying fri. and Sat. night, I need to call Attica Inn, are they full? So do we have runs set for Fri. too, I need to know some times to meet and where we meet at the badlands.
