Also, anyone interested in going to valley Forge on the 28th, there will be a small swap meet there as well.

I can pull my daughters beater bronco out when it's stuck to the frame, with the winch. No way with a tow strap. Full size Bronco is a good 40% heavier than a wrangler.
BTW: did you ever try and back track a gps track you have been laying for 3 hours? When you eventualy get out you will be talking to yourself.

i was down the pines today after work and it is very dry. the hole where the toyota was stuck is so dry you could walk through it and not get your boots wet. i went down the trail piney and i spoke about in the other post about the 29th and there are mud holes along that trail still. most of the people who are new to the pines im pretty sure havent been down that trail. im sure some of the bigger holes are deep and slick enough to get stockers and unlocked vehicles stuck. there where deer everywhere once the sun was almost down. no bucks though, all i saw were does. i not kidding, i probably saw about 40 deer! they like to race down the trails in front of me a lot too.
BTW, who is gonna lead this monsterous group it sounds like is going to be there? i dont know that i feel up to leading 20+ vehicles. especially since i still get confused out there, but im still learning! smile.gif
i should be there unless my best friend needs me for something. his future sister in law is in realy bad shape. she is 18 years old and has a brain toomer that has spread to her brain stem and things arent looking good at all. if he needs me for something that is the only thing that will keep me from going. please keep her in your prayers!

Greenie, in case you are not there, we'll understand, and keep your friend in our thoughts. And if I'm not mistaken, I think that Jeepinfireman agreed to lead us down those happy trails. Also I heard mention that someone requested that we take the full sized Bronco's down the TJ trail cause some of us have paint jobs that we'd like to protect, unlike mine, since there is no paint on the fiberglass, all I have to watch out for is crunching it against a tree or something, he he :D

I forgot Piney wasnt going to make it. Wont be the same but there are a bunch of us that are going that have been before and Im sure we will surprise ourselves with the way our memories kick in. We should be allright.
As for the amount of deer. When Piney and I were out a couple of weeks ago there was only one Doe we saw and she stood out in the middle of the trail staring at us for awhile before taking off.
It was also pretty dry but Piney managed to get stuck a couple of times with a locker so Im sure if someone wants to get stuck they will. It would be nice though if that rain hits us b 4 Sunday.

I know when we went out on the Jersey Devil midnight run I forget the name of the trail but it was completely underwater. I got stuck and had water up to the pedals. When YJorBust tried to yank me out he got sucked in with me. Not to mention he broke his bumper. Zach wound up winching us both out and not a moment too soon it is scary out there in the Pines @ night.

vince, i think that trail you are talking about is the "swamp loop". its probably bone dry right now.
it is scary out there at night. i was half an hour from the road (figuring i was doing only about 15 mph) when i was leaving the woods tonight and it was black. i was by myself too, im glad i had spare batteries for the gps, i would have gotten freaked out if that thing died and i had to backtrack for an hour and a half.
that reminds me, where has Wheels been? is he back to school or something?
oh, i also forgot to mention that i didnt use my KC's, i was afraid of what i might see

Yes that was it and it was pretty dry 2 weeks ago on the top but once we broke through there was some thick dark mud the kind that likes to suck you in.
It looks completely different at night when you cant see what is around the bend

as far as using gps, the first thing i programmed into mine was the atsion ranger station. its probably as good a place as any in an emergency. if you dont have gps its good to have a compass at least. if you get lost and went in on the east side of 206 just keep heading west, you will eventually reach 206.
that big hole that you are thinking about meeting at if we split up is not a big hole anymore, its slightly muddy. if it rains a ton im sure it will fill back up though. if we do split ill lead a smaller group until i get lost then ill let someone else take over. ;)

that big hole that you are thinking about meeting at if we split up is not a big hole anymore, its slightly muddy. if it rains a ton im sure it will fill back up though. if we do split ill lead a smaller group until i get lost then ill let someone else take over. ;) :D Actually I hope we get lost as hell for a few hours.

Not sure if I'll be able to make it Sunday. I'm in the middle of moving. With all this rain coming I could use the stress relief by slinging some mud around and I have to mark my new parking place. I just might come out a ride for a couple of hours and then bail early. Guess I'll wait and see how many boxes are still sitting around the house and if the old house is cleaned out for the 1st.
I wanna go!

Looks like you are going to have a cast of thousands. My brother and his wife are going to be here for the weekend, thats one reason why I'm not going. If he decides he wants to go out for awhile maybe I'll run into you all. Won't be hard with that many going...should be able to hear you from my house.
The forecast for here is only an inch or so and that will make zero difference in the water out here. The majority of rain is going west of here in Pa. You'll get just enough so you won't get the dust.

O.K. Just got back from the Pines. @ 7:30 I checked out a few trails one that has 2 small holes they both were dry and just starting to hold water after almost a whole day of rain that left me feeling a litle dejected. So after a wonderful meal of barbecued turkey and Venison tender loin. Then hanging out with some of the locals and listening to Jersey Devil tales. At aproximately 10:15 ( or 3 Coronas). I went to the same two holes and am happy to report that the same 2 holes that before were just damp clay pits now once again are holding water and my Jeep is muddy! It also was raining pretty heavy on the way home so it looks like every one is in store for a nice weekend!

Don’t get all offended now I wasn’t trying to ruin your excitement. I guess after almost 40 years of backpacking, canoeing, hunting, fishing, cycling and 4x4ing out here I don’t get as excited as I used to. I still love it as much as ever though.
I hope that some of you who might have an interest in the Pine Barrens have an opportunity to learn more about it. Most of you have only seen about 1% of the pines. As jeepman said in an earlier post “there is a lot more than 3 or 4 trails out there.” I know it’s impossible to learn much when you’re just being taken from one mud hole to another in a very confined area, but there are a lot of neat places that you simply can’t take a large group. Maybe in the future we can run some small groups to some of the ghost towns and other areas that some people might be interested in. There is a lot of history; in fact the area where you all are always taken was part of the first Indian Reservation in the nation.
I do hope you all have a great time Sunday!
PS: for those interested a good starter book is Iron in the Pines, the story of the Pine Barrens ghost towns and bog iron. If you go into the main building at Batsto they have a book store in there with many books on the history and locations. You can also buy topo maps there.

Piney, I'd be VERY interested in seeing that stuff and finding out more about the Pines. If more people would be interested in it, and actually take action to learn about, more would be interested in saving it.
When I lived in Georgia, one place that I visited quite often was the Civil War prisoner of war camp and cemetary at Andersonville. Amazing. It was just fascinating and disturbng, to learn all that went on there and what an important part of the war that it played.

You’re absolutely right Hog. I went to college in Tenn. and my roommate was a Civil War nut that got me interested in it. Being college kids though we did some stupid (illegal) things like going out in the middle of the night to battlefields with metal detectors and finding buried artifacts to sell and pay tuition.
Next time you come out we’ll swing by Batsto Village and you can take a peek.
Sorry for getting off the track of this post.

dont worry about it, i got enough for everyone. it makes up for the last time i was there and i forgot to take pictures
did you get any good video? did melissa really make my jeep jump and do wheelies and stuff?
i broke a rubber on one of my tie rod ends :( is this a pickle fork operation or can i get it off with a brass drift and sledge hammer? (i dont have a pickle fork) lots of water came out when i put a little more grease in it to hold it over til i can replace it.
i think tomorrows project will be to drop and clean the starter after going through that deep water/mud hole.(maybe i should do all the fluids again soon too :( , why did i go there)

You are very perceptive. Yup, I was out there on Saturday morning. I took my brother, who was visiting from Virginia, down to the shore through the woods. My son-in-law does have 35" boggers, but he wasn't with us.

Thanks for all the pics! UGH if ya saw in OT about my Digital Camera help topic everytime I try to read the memory stick it says it needs formatted (which means If I click yes I'll lose them all!) so I just have it on memory stick right now (unless someone knows how to get them out of a memory stick I can't get to!)...
ES no problemo, we had oodles of people up there takin pics (and I have a FEW on my 35mm, hopefully THOSE aren't screwed up or I'll be even more pissed than I am right now... argh).
Damn, Matt, you took MORE pics than I did! (I have 59 in my digital, damned batteries--I brought two fully loaded--went dead right after us four kept going).
Anyhoo, thanks again for those avis and pics, that was the best wheeling I've had since, well, last time haha...

It can be a pain in the ass to get the top of the sway bar link off (I think thats what you are talking about). I took them both off and one came off easy with a couple bangs of a ballpeen. I had to saw the top off the other one and pound the crap out of it. I still have one of the good ones if you want it. I replaced them with disco's. Let me know.

Let me know.the one that is ripped is on a tie rod end, where it is joined at the steering knuckle. i put grease in it and it still held some so ill get to it when i can. all it is, is a rubber booty that holds the grease on the ball joint. the ones on my sway bar are dry rotted and shot already, ill replace the sway bar links eventually anyway.

 </font>[/QUOTE]The old dude in the cream colored XJ that went through over the wooden bridge while we were eating lunch there, he said "Why don't you just block the road?" Which is funny because a) there is no road, that's why we were out there. b) the "road" wasn't blocked he got through very easily without anyone having to move their jeeps and c) he originally was heading in another direction then stopped, backed up and deliberately chose the "blocked road". Just a cranky old man out looking for people to bit** at.

As for hiding scratches, my Jeep doesn't have any paint on it to scratch. And the mud....well, it's just ornamental deceration for now till I get around to washing it. :D
HE HE I know there is no paint on it it is
F/GLASS that was good ornamental I liked that :D
