This should be a good early winter run -- this trail is pretty easy when it's dry, so it should be a good one to run with snow and water. It crosses a creek and has a lot of "whoopdeedoos" to play in that should be muddy. The plan is to run it on 11/2 to get to know the trail (and play in the mud) and then run it at least one more time in the dead of winter in the big snow.

It's just outside of Nederland, about 30 minutes from Boulder.

When: Saturday, November 2, 9:00am
Where: Starbucks - 30th & Arapahoe, Boulder, CO

Dress warmly! It's early yet, though you can never be too prepared (chains on-hand might be a good idea).

Let me know if you need more info!

BTT -- should be nice and soggy after the weather we are currently having!

I'm in! I've been jonesing for a ride since I missed the last one! Sounds like Moab was fun. Do you have pix posted on your site?

Okay so the run is still on... and I must admit that I'm actually nervous about this one. First time I've been a little apprehensive and almost backing out (though I won't). Vail got 14" of snow, and though we won't be as far into the mountains as Vail we're still going to be up there. This is my first run in snow and I'm freaking out a little.

I bought a set of chains last night ($65!) and a little shovel I can tie onto the Hi-Lift mounted to my roll bars (http://bbb.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000230), and I'll be bringing enough food, clothing and water to live in my car for a week. My TJ is in good shape, so I'm not worried about it breaking down or anything. I'll also be with two other vehicles.

So what am I worried about, right?

Yeah, I have been thinking about the snow and this trip all week! And replaying last winter's nearly (extremely) nasty foray into the snow and ice. I think that'll be good for me tomorrow though, keep me from doing anything stupid. I don't have tire chains, but I think we'll have enough recovery gear and supplies to keep us pretty safe. Also, if it's too hairy, we can take an easier trail, right? See you tomorrow!

It was fun -- though I can't help but feel I was a loser today. Normally I can hold my own on rocks and stuff but I had issues all day with the stupid snow. We had the first annual Caribou Creek Whoopdeedoo Races (winter course) and I totally spun out all over the place, then I couldn't get up that stupid hill...

I watched the videos and stuff and it looks like I just couldn't haul ass as well as the other guys. Tires too puffy? Dunno...

Ahh it was still fun!

I have to figure out a happy balance between tires too puffy (no traction on snow) or tires too flat (coming off the wheel on the highway at 20 psi). I'm all afraid to air down now...

The Creek was fun though...

get an OBA setup and air back up before you hit the highway. then, no worries :D
