I'm getting ready to start planning our vaction trip next spring/summer. I haven't settled on a location just yet, but I want to head west. Generally. The last trip we took, the kids fussed 'cause we didnt go to a beach of any sort. I feel I should make that up, so if I get far enough, I figure Chorpus Christy, TX or Orange, TX if I get WAY out there.

I've tossed all kinds of ideas in the air. I was staioned at FT Hood many moons ago, but we were poor newly-weds and I was a Pvt. So we didn't get out at all. I wanna do something cool. Kids had great time at Attica, but we need to get out and see/do some stuff. We camped last time, so we'll probably do it again, but if I get lucky I'm gonna try and get hold of a popup camper, like a Coleman or something before I go.

Basically, anyone with ideas, and suggestion of wht to do or NOT to do, post it. Really. Off roading will NOT be out of question, but it will absolutely NOT be The Hammers or anything nuts.

Texas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico... I know ya'll are out there. smile.gif

TIA
Billy

I would suggest Arkansas around the Hot Springs area. Camping, hiking, picnicing, boating, and other things (including a small theme/waterpark for the kids.) I don't know what type of budget or time you're talking about, but it's really nice. I camp up there all the time(but never taken the Jeep.) If you are looking for a place to ride Superlift has an ORV park up there also and you wouldn't have to drive halfway accross the country. HTH

I have no idea for a budget yet either. Our last trip spanned 10 days, one of which was spent in a hotel room. Rest were camping or by-invitation to someone's home. It ended up costing us around $800 total. That's gas and food and such.

Compare that to $500 for 3 days at Tybee Island.
And that was the "cheapest" FAMILY vacations we had taken at that point. The only drawback this last time was that the kids got tired of riding. One of them in particular. Typical.

Anyway, point being is that nothing is really out of the question. If I can locate a camper, then I think I may be able to make a trip easier to live with and possibly cheaper for us.

Don't tell me I'm gonna have to look through 4 years of FOURWHEELER and JP mags to get ideas...

Did I mention that anyone along the route might get to see FRANKENJEEP? :D :D
