How much tire clearence do you actually get from these?? I'm doing some research for a friend thats picking up an XJ pretty soon. The flares LOOK cool, but are they really worth it?

Prime, I have asked the same question but did not get response. It has been several months ago and I couldn't raise enough info for an informed decision. What I found was that the bw flares are used after a trim. It is really not the flares that give the added clearance. They only give you a (2 I think) couple inches in width. Which would relate to the back spacing of the wheel. I am definately not an expert but that is my $.02. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out!

wider flares will give you clearence for stuffing wider tires. with the stock flare, if the wheels have shallow backspacing, the tires may hit the bottom of the flare when stuffing, possibly breaking the flare off.
Additionally, there's the whole legal issue of running tires than stick out past the flare edge, these will address that too.
Not sure but i think you get more than 2" of additional coverage with the bushwackers

I've seen a few writeups on the install. I know theres cutting invoved so you get SOME vertical clearence. I'm just not sure how much.
