The room would be more helpful, as well as security, I could actually put a system in and not worry about gettin it stolen. WHat are other advantages/disadvantages?

TIA

Dan, I bought a 99 Sport new, and love it! I've never had any trouble with it (except for the WJ that pulled in front of me and caused almost $10k in damage! :D ). Edit - The WJ was totaled and had to be carried off. I just limped to the shop!

I chose it over a TJ cause it's my only ride, and I often need to meet with clients, so I felt it was a little more conservative than the Wrangler.

It's also easier to fit four guys, camping gear and rifles into, and it can be locked securely. Plus, I have the rack up top to lash the tent and fishing poles to.

On the other hand, the top and doors don't come come off, so I'm thinking maybe in the spring I'll find an old CJ to play with... ;)

My wife and I recently purchased a '90 XJ with a pieced-together 6" lift. The person from whom we bought it only wanted to lift it for looks. In the time we've owned it we have used the heck out of it and absolutely love it. It's a great compliment to our '97 TJ when we want to go camping and take all six of our dogs. It also runs very well on the highway and absolutely ROCKS offroad. We've replaced a good portion of the original lift and it now performs even better! It's also nice to have seating for five (ours is a four door) and some power behind the automatic tranny (six cylinder vs. the four-popper/standard trans in the TJ.)

If you can't tell from my enthusiasm - we love it!

Dan, I bought a 2000 Sport XJ new and have no regrets. It is mostly stock except for a Yakima rack system, K&N filter, CB, Wrangler alloys, and "It's a Jeep Thing...You Wouldn't Understand" sticker. I love it. If you decide to go XJ, be sure to get the 4.0L with the auto. Good luck, Stephen.

I love my 96 XJ. 130,000 miles and still runs like new. All stock and very capable off road. Just don't think I could trade it for my CJ. I think the best way to go is to get one of each. I can pull the CJ any where I want to go with the XJ and not have to fight it on the highway. The best advice for you is to just consider what you need. Pick the one that fits you best. They are both awsome trucks you won't be disapointed either way.
