Hi guys. My brother gave me the punch 160 watt amp he had in his truck and I am looking to hook it up in the heep. Do you think the punch sealed enclosure that contains two eights and handles 400 watts would be/ sound good? or is it too much speaker not enough power?http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/ROCRFB4082
That's the link to the box. There's also a single 8 available that would fit well. Thanks

160 watts is not enough for those two 8s, but it's enough for one 10 or one 12, same box series. They have a 200 watt rms handling, and 160 should be fine. If you can, get the single 12, cause its' cone area is greater than the two 8s together, so it should be louder. HTH

Chris, they could do that with the same size box? all the ones I found are slightly larger, just large enough to cause a problem because I want ti to be able to go in my factory instatrunk. If they do make that box with a 12, that would be AWWWWWEEESSSSOOOMMMMEEEE. If you found one could you please post a link? I'm going to keep looking. Thx for all your help,
Nick

Damn...an instatrunk. How much room do you have vertically with the instatrunk?

its actually 12 inches on the dot. so thats where I'd be tight, but i want to keep it so the sub is lockable.

Don't know of too many boxes off the top of my head. Do a search on the web for boxes for Wranglers and it might turn some stuff up. I know some of the Qlogic truck style boxes fit in the rear, but you won't get a 12 in the trunk with the instatrunk unless it can fire down or the box is at a 45 degree angle facing up. Good luck. Look around, you'll find something. Also, check out Sound Domains members page for TJs. Lots of systems on there, and you might find someone with an instatrunk. A Bazooka will fit as well as the Infinity bass link, but usually more bass can be had for the same price. HTH

Keep in mind that even a Rockford Punch 40 could do well over 200 watts rms while bridged into 4 ohms. I don't know exactly what amp you have, but I imagine they would push those 8's just fine, even though not matched perfectly. 8's are so gay though. Get a single 12 before you do that. 8's are only good for 80-200 Hz midbass in my opinion.

totally agree about 8s being gay. But the thing is im looknig at getting that rockford loaded box, and a 10 or 12 inch box would not fit behind my seat. I don't really want to go with 2 8s, but it looks like (unless i want to drop a load of dough on a custom box) thats what I'll have to do. Even the single 10 box won't fit. It would barely, actually, but not including the tailgate hinge or tie down loops. Any help?

Is your space really 12x12x36? If so, you've got more than enough room to do something else. Going to be more expensive than $130 though.

Build your own Box.. 3/4 Plywood it will take 3/4 to 1 cubic ft for each 10" sub. if its not ported. takes 1 1/2 cubic ft for each ported 10.
we always made them unported.
1728 cubic inches in a cubic FT
H x L x W in inches
put a slight angle to match the rear seat fire the subs in to the seat.
use drywall screws
get some carpet from a local sound shop
good luck

I built a good 12" sub enclosure into a Tuffy enclosure - with a good sub you need about 1.2 cu ft and a TIGHT seal on the box. Jeeps don't really offer room for a nice, old-school ported box. Check out specs on new woofers - you can get away with very small enclosures if they're built right.

Here is a pic of a box I built myself. I have it mounted inside the insta-trunk on my YJ. Had to trim a small amount of the bottom of the trunk to make it sit flush, but it fit's nice and tight. The box is approx .60, I plan on using a 10" Kicker Solo Baric Sub or a JL 10.
HTH, at least gives you an idea.
