am I being to anal about a clean factory look install?
any advice / support / suggestions would be extremely helpful.

If the wiring is the same as a 01 XJ, the pigtail should have a light blue wire that runs to the lights. You could tap into it and there ya go. Test the wires behind the switch as to which ones provide energy to the lights you currently have. I take it you have lights that the KCs are replacing. You should be set!

actually, i've got the switch its from a 97 or 99 cherokee. The switch and pigtail harness
My goal is to keep the function of the factory fogs as is and functioning thru the turnsignal stalk on the steering column. But I am adding additional lights (KCs) on a windshield mount that I want wired independently of the factory fogs, that are not ignition dependent.
Here's some pics of the mopar wiring harness / switch for reference / assistance.

I put a 70's GM style dimmer switch on the floor board to switch my driving/fog lites.I use the OEM switch to energize the floor switch. Also from what I hear the older TJ/XJ switches wont fit the 03' and later switch bezels.

RubiNewbie,
How did you make out on the stock light switch setup.
I have to believe that it can be done.
Let us know.

i did it in my 2001 tj. i used all the wiring that was meant to be used with the kc's. and just ran it to the factory fog light switch. i cut the pigtail right at the back of the switch and spliced it in.

Great posts. I have been looking for this info. for about 2 months. I found out that mopar does not sell just the pigtail anymore. You have to buy the whole wiring harness and used parts dealers won't sell just the pigtail either. I've got the factory fog light switch, so maybe I can figure out how to hook it up to my KC wiring.

You could always try calling around to some local junk yards to see if they have some wranglers there that have the fog lights on them and just get the pigtail out to use.

I have called 6 or 7 junk yards and only one has any jeeps and they wouldn't sell you a crumpled fender. I have also called some used jeep parts places that I found on the internet and none of them will sell just the pigtail. They want to sell the whole wiring harness for a stealership price.

Finally got them wired using the OEM switch. They work independent of the headlights, which is what I wanted.
