I just installed my cb radio and was wondering what channels the truckers use on the highway so I could listen in. also i mounted my antenna to the spare tire carrier and was wondering if i will need any extra grounding? thanks

I ran a ground lead from the inside of my TJ's lift gate to the tub on the hinge side just to make sure there was always a good ground. I used the spare tire for mounting a 4ft firestick and get a SWR of 1.8 which I am happy with. :D

Proper grounding of a CB antenna's mount is super-critical to the CB working as well as possible. Improper/inadequate grounding of an antenna's mount is probably responsible for 99% of all antenna and SWR problems. Just take extra effort to make sure the mount is able to make good electrical contact with the Jeep tub and it will pay off. Grind or sand down the paint to bare metal on both surfaces where the mount is against the tire carrier and it will pay off in solid CB performance.

Ditto on Jerry but add some Conductive No-Ox Paste to the joint. This will help stop any rusting, corrosion and make sure the electrical joint is a good one.
I think you should be able to get the paste at a Hardware type store with electrical stuff.
It is used on alumumin wire applications too.

i mounted my antenna to the spare tire carrierGot any pics of this mount? I was looking at the new Qtec magazine and wondering if that new "Trail flag"(pg218) mount would work for a CB antenna. I would like to mount a 4' Firestick to it. I would ground it to the tub too.
Any help would be appreciated.

i got this mount off ebay. i think it was around 20 bucks. it uses the top 3 bolts that mount the carrier to the tailgate. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid103/p54bd55c97536105571388d46963cea41/f9ab6768.jpg

frankiefire702,
I like it, that mount should be standard equipment on all Jeeps.
That mount and a 3' Wilson Flex-i-Whip would work well.
Later,
That looks great. I'll be searching ebay today.
Thanks for the picture.

Well, after searching Ebay and 17 pages of mounts, I find nothing remotely resembling that cb mount.
Do you remember who makes it? Model #? Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
joe
