I just updated my front speakers to 5 1/4" Pioneers using a speaker adapter kit I got on ebay for my 99 TJ. I replaced the upgraded 4 x 6 Jeep speakers that I had. I followed the instructions for the adapter kit and snipped the speaker lead wires on each side and spliced the wires from the Pioneer speakers onto the factory speaker wires. After clipping the wires onto the speakers, I tested the radio and I had no sound out of my front speakers but still had rear sound from the sound bar. I adjusted the fader settings to all front and there is nothing. I wonder if there is a grounded wire or a fuse somewhere that is part of the front speaker wires that I need to replace... I have a Pioneer DEH-P3500 head unit that was professionally installed at the time I bought the Jeep (used.) Any thoughts???
I also updated my rear (sound bar) speakers to Pioneer 6 1/2" and they sound awesome.... but I want my front speakers!
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Not knowing how many wires are coming to each speaker, I would say something isn't hooked up right (duh!). Normally, if there are just two wires going to each speaker (a two wire harness) then one is positive and one is negative. If they are switched, there is sound produced but not very quality sound. So I would say something more than witched wires is going on. With speakers, there are only normally 2 wires and one does not specifically need to be grounded to bare metal like regular electronic equipment.
I would check the harness and see the wire set up. I am a 91Yj and 01XJ owner and the YJ did not come with factory speakers and stereo unit.
Let us know what you find. Were the 4x6 speakers working before you took them out or did the TJ not come with any front speakers when you bought it? I am thinking somehow the head unit front speakers did not get installed correctly...

The 4 x 6 speakers were working perfectly before I took them out... so the system was wired up properly before the change. There are only two wires to each speaker... I don't have any amps or subs hooked up to the head unit. I'm just wondering how/why BOTH front speakers wouldn't work after changing out the speakers. There is no sound at all. Not even static.
And of course, I cut the wires and can't go back and put the old 4 x 6 speakers in without a major PITA since the 4 x 6 OEM speaker plugs don't have much wire to work with now.

I would try hooking another set of speakers to the front set up you have...to determine if the problem lies in the speakers or the wiring. Similarly, I would try hooking the new 5.25"s to the rear sound bar speaker wire to make sure they work as well. Or hook the speakers up to something to test it (like a home receiver or something alike). That way you can pinpoint the problem as the wiring or the speakers...overall, it may or may not help but it directs your investigation of the problem!

Any other thoughts? I'll probably start tearing the dash apart looking for that cut wire or broken cable tonight...

Update... I put the old speakers back in and they worked perfectly... so the wiring is not bad, it had to be the speakers. Guess they are going to be returned. Ugh....

There ya go...good luck. Maybe the next pair will work just fine! I have learned to try anything I could think of first before I start taking things apart. Especially since there seems to always be something going on! Ha ha

For future refereance, if you touch the speaker leads with a nine volt battery, the speakers will pop. If they pop, then you know its a bad speaker.. if they don't pop.. bad wiring.
