hey im wondering if there are any good alarms out there for jeeps like in the summer time with the top and doors off. are there any alarms that would go off like if someone climbed in and tried to pry open your center counsel thingy or anything? like most alarms only go off if a door is opened or trunk but wut if a top is unzipped? are there any alarms good enough to sense that kind of stuff like shock sensors or something that isnt crazy expensive? thanks

I have a really good alarm system I will sell you....its an omega excalibur atv-1000...i have it in my jeep also. you can buy a radar sensor for like 12 bucks off ebay and then if anyone even gets near the jeep it will chirp then if they put their hand inside the alarm will go off

I have A CrimeGuard Security System in my 98 since I bought it. Have had no problem with it,it has the sensor in it that chirps a few times if someone comes close to it and it is adjustable for the area it senses. I got it from Crutchfield www.crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com) and they also sell a special harness for your particular model car that plugs right into your main wiring harness so you don't have to full around with a lot of wire splicing. The only wire splicing that I had to do was splice into the door switch and I believe the headlight switch, and a power lead. The harness takes care of the engine disable feature and other main things.

You could probably get out of Circuit City for about 250 for an alarm w/ motion sensor installed. Unless you want something really fancy.

Go to a specialty shop that offers a warranty...with licenced techs...I got mine at Quinn Security...it was a tad more $$$, but their customer service has been great and I don't have to pay for labour when something buggers up...other than a case of beer now and then just to say thanks ;) ...places like Circuit City and Future Shop don't offer that...or licenced techs
Mine has a pager and prox sensor, etc...I am having the remote starter removed because the Jeep computer doesn't like it and if I end up keeping it...but everything else works great...it's an Aladdin(sp) and fully adjustable smile.gif
Do some research on the shop...this is one industry that seems to attract people looking for a quick buck...good luck.

Check ebay, there are lots of deals on there. Or go to Etronics (http://www.etronics.com)
They are much cheaper than Crutchfield and have several more alarms to choose from. Alarms really aren't all that difficult to install if you know your way around your Jeeps wiring, fusebox, etc. If you can install a stereo and speakers, you could do it. If you don't feel confident enough to do it yourself, then you should buy it at a local stereo shop like others have said in this thread. Many places will not install or will charge you extra if you buy it elsewhere.

Circuit City offers a life time warrenty on all DEI alarms they put in, and that is a life time on the instilation as well as the alarm itself (not including the remotes). And not all of the installers at Circuit City are lisenced, but most of us are, and the ones who aren't, are well trained. I have been an installer for Circuit City for 3 years, and I had to be certified before i could touch someones car. And for the record. The installer that usally puts on alarms, is someone who has been there for a long time (ie a manager). Local shops butcher cars. And if you go on a road trip, and have a problem with your alarm, its easier to find a Circuit City than it is to find your one of a kind shops.

Any DEI alarm is good. Be it Vipper, Rattler, or the other alarms they make. DEI also makes several add ons for their alarms (motion detectors). From there you can pretty much decide what you need. Circuit City and Best Buy have them starting at the basic keyless entry.. all the way up to competition alarms with several relay switches. Your best bet is to go in and talk to someone who can show you what they have and point you in the right direction.

i have a viper alarm with the auto start (LOVE that durning the winter) and a motion sensor that was installed by Tweeter -- which, by the way, saved my jeep from being stolen (i saw the guys trying to take her and called the cops -- long story short -- they were caught)
so i would recommend getting a good one and getting it installed -- and when you get it installed, ask them to hide the wires as much as they can considering you have no hood lock --
