Hey guys,
I'm setting up the wiring in prep for my CB that should be here this week. I was wondering where you all have run the coax out of the Jeep to the antenna? I've heard of running it out the 3rd brake light grommet, but with the connector that's on the coax I would have to drill the hole quite a bit bigger to get it to go through.

What is my best option? I suppose I could do the drilling, the try and find a bigger rubber plug, but is there some easier way you guys have found?

I just cut a small slit in the center of one of the rubber plugs in the floor and forced it through. Just make sure you run the coax so it doesn't get caught on anything if you go off road.

If you are good with soldering or have the proper crimp tool you can cut the connector off, run the wire, then buy a new connector and put it back on. They come in solder or crimp on styles and they only cost about $3.

In my 91 YJ had an antenna mounted on the rear tire bumpstop. I ran the coax form the CB through the wire bundle that feeds the rear of th vehicle (under the driver's door sill) and it ran all the way to the back of the Jeep. Then the wiring went through a rubber grommet that I pried the hole bigger with a screwdriver and fed it though. Then I released the screwdriver and I didn't have to cut the grommet. Then I ran the coax behind the rear bumper (where the wiring runs to feed the rear drivers lights). Then I brought the coax out the side of the mudcover and up directly to the rear anntenna (mounted on the tire bumpstop).
Just an option if you are placing your antenna there.

I have seen coax run in through the taillight, cleab set up.

I will be running coax from the mount on the top of the tire carrier down to the bumper, leaving a little for the swing of the carrier. Uner the body rear panel to the rear wheelwell, drill a hole in the top of the wheelwell and put in a tight gromet and run the coax inside of the vehicle along the roll cage to the CB mounted on the roll cage between the driver and passenger. I like to keep as much of the coax inside of the vehicle as possible.

I ran mine through the wiring harness to just behind roll bar behind the drivers seat then ran it under the carpet around the wheel well to the rubber plug closest to the back of the Jeep. Ran it through the rubber plug and over the top of the gas tank to the other side of the Jeep where my antenna was mounted on the bumper.
