Just bought the Rock It CB mount. Didn't realize that drilling was required and I'm trying to avoid that. Has anyone else cut the mounting bolts off the bracket and used only the tail light bolts to secure it. If so, were there:
a) any problems with wind resistance and antenna weight forcing the mount and consequently tail light lose?
b) a sufficient grounding surface using just the existing tail light bolts.

Send it back get the one that clamps onto the spare tire bump stop. I got the one u did and was not thrilled with drilling 2 holes in the tub. I would not purchase it again.
I was doing some searchin around and found that Tera has one that does not require drilling and is the same style as the Rock it one, and they have different one's for each side of your tailgate. HTH

Since I believe that bolts are there for added support, then use them or lose the mount.
The grounding, even if you use the extra bolts there is a chance that you will still get a bad ground. The only way to make sure the mount is grounded (no matter which mount) is to attach an extra wire running from the mount, close to the antenna to the frame.
