All this alarm talk made me decide to get one

I've had different alarms in the past and installed them myself. Also helped friends install theirs. The first alarm I got, I let the stereo shop where I bought it install it. They did a piss-poor job too. I went in afterwards and hid the wiring better. They also failed to install the passenger side door pin so I had no protection at all there.

Anyway, I got a Code alarm brand new off ebay for $50 shipped. Has the shock sensor, starter disable, radar sensor for inside protection, pos/neg inputs for different types of triggers, parking light flash, etc. I've never own a code alarm brand before, but back in my mini-truckin days many people had them and liked them.

I had a Code Alarm on my car years ago when stereo's was the thing. I liked it and didnt have any problems except remote keys wearing out due to being in my jeans pocket. But after contacting Code Alarm and giving them the model and serial number they sent me 2 new remotes. That really impressed me because my alarm was out of warranty but they stood behind their product. Good luck with your new one.
