First we'll do the parts guy thing:
94 YJ 4.0 I-6, AX-15.

Please Read On- its long, but I could really use the help:

A couple months back I was leaking ATF out of the t-case pretty bad... so I pulled tranny and t-case and replaced the faulty oil seals (one on tranny was bad too, but you could only see the ATF as it is a lighter weight fluid and leaks in place of the gear oil)

Soon after, I've got synchromesh fluid (what is now in the transmission) coming up through the inspection cover... not a large amount, but enough to be noticeable. Is there a seal that needs to be replaced?

The heat issue kinda died a little (it used to get warm enough to melt plasic to the tranny hump), but the tranny is starting to make a little noise now.

So I've got a few questions:

1. Is it worth rebuilding, vs. replacing the whole unit... I'd rather do it right and not have to worry again, but if a rebuild will solve it... so be it.

2. My driveline angles are steep as it is... and I wanted to run one of those new 4 speed atlas t-cases eventually... is a 3550 longer than an AX-15?

Anyway- looking for some advice or ideas; please let me know your thoughts. TIA

My manual transmission writeup (http://bbb.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000612) talks about why most rebuilds work ok for a little bit, and then its back to bulky shifts again.

The NV3550 and AX15 are the same length. The only downside to the NV3550 is that it can be a little noisy, but it is a fair amount stronger.
