1 deep well socket+1 long pipe=1 broken lug stud.

Buy a new lug stud & nut, install & torque to specs.

Enjoy adult beverage.

BTW, in that order........... :D

No sweat. What usually happens is that the threads get "stressed" by being moderately, to severely, over-tightened. Then while trying to remove it, it galls up the threads after backing off just a turn or two. After that, snapping it off & replacing it is the only real solution.

Good Luck!

first off...shoot your friend. and then steal his wallet to pay for new lugs. even studs if you need them

i always took a chisel and hammer and knocked until it came loose. just hit it on the edge (righty tighty lefty loosey) and it should budge. but that lug will be destroyed.

with a tourque wrench it should only need about 70-80 ft/lbs. dont quote me on that, but thats around how much i do everything.

hope that helps bro.

Do you own a torque wrench? I've gotten very religious about torquing lug nuts properly. The number one cause of warped rotors, is improperly torqued lug nuts. Not to mention if you do get a flat, its much easier to take off a properly torqued lug nut.

No i dont own one but I have very easy access to them. How do I find out the proper torque for my stock wheels

Factory Jeep spec is 85 - 115 ft-lbs. Personally I always torque my wheels in two steps. Once at 75 ft-lbs. Then go back over them and tighten them to 85 ft-lbs.

If you have aluminum wheels you are always supposed to check the lug nut torque a second time after driving it a few miles. I normally drive it for a day, and check them again whenever I get back.

Tip on the torque wrenches too, never store them with them set at say 75 ft-lbs, you always want to back them all the way down to help keep them accurate.

And are all you boys and girls using anti-seize on your lug studs?...

I keep my torque wrench in my jeep under the dry'n towels under the rear seat. Am on my 2nd wrench..they do wear out after years of service.

I had a lug nut with rounded corners. I bought a 6 sided impact socket, a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and a 6' long piece of pipe. Hammer the socket on to the lug nut and the use the breaker bar with the pipe to break it loose.

took care of it! well actually i myself didnt... i figured since i was heading down to my mechanic f/ inspection i'd have him take a look at it before i went and busted the lug and the stud.... he just took a deep socket and hammered it w/ a mini sledge and says 'here ya go kid, take off your bolt' ... and a simple twist it was off... boy he made me feel stupid lol oh well... got that fixed without having to break the stud and replace it.... and it was Free! guess he figured my embarassment was enough smile.gif

So show him how smart you are and say, "That's not a bolt, that's a nut!"

haha im sure he he said nut and i just wrote bolt ... he said to go get some chrome lug nuts (mine were all jacked up after this mess) and then (As Mike said) to torque them... which we did so im all set...
