I am the new owner of a 87 YJ 4.2, 5 speed. My Jeep won't idle. I've checked vac lines, gaskets ect. The engine seems to run pretty good off idle but, as soon as I let off the throttle it dies.
I have been told that a Ford model 2100 carb would be a direct swap for my 87 YJ 4.2. I'm told this will fix my idle problems. Any tips?

Thanks

I don't know about the ford carb, but I have had great luck with my weber. If you don't have or are not going to modify the engine (cam and head swap), then I would go with the 34 or 36 weber. If you do have mods or are going to, go with the 38.

I have heard good things about the Weber carbs. Cost is a big issue for me because of a new baby in the family. I think I'm going to keep the mods pretty tame for now. The trails we have around here aren't very tough.

Thanks for writing back!

I did a search, and I found this (http://www.cjoffroad.com/writeup.asp?WU_ID=16&noAdd=1) swap info.

I hope this is what you were looking for.

its not a direct swap, it does require a adapter plate (mine did) but it is well worth the effort its a night/day diffrence.

good luck, leme know if u got any questions

Yes it does require an adapter plate and a few throtthle linkage mods but all i all it can be far cheaper than a weber. Nothing wrong with the weber but knid of pricey. I use a Motorcraft 2150 and love it.
