I have the V8 from my wifes ZJ sitting in the garage collecting dust. I dont know what to do with the motor, so I was thinking about taking off the good parts and junking the block and heads. So than I was thinking about the throttle body and injectors, if it would be any type of upgrade to swap them over to my 4.0L. I have heard of some people using 5.0 injectors, thats what sparked my day dreaming...

Do the injectors from the 318 pump out more pounds?
Is the throttle body any better? Probably not even the same size...

Is there anything that I can swap over to make a difference?

Hmm.....I don't know if anybody has ever done that.......

So here's your chance to be famous, jump right in & let us know how it turns out! :D

We'll even call it "Dave's Power Mod", assuming it works out..... ;)

I just want to have to call it "Daves hillbilly power mod to turn a good running Jeep into an expensive driveway ornament! " LOL !

do they have the same electrical connections? hell, try it and see what happens. who knows, it might even work and what do you have to lose.

Now thats motivation to make me do it there... LOL...

The injectors look identical to me, but I dont have either of the off the fuel rail yet either. I am not sure what the down side, or consequences could be of doing this so I want to make sure I know first. MeanMax is right on, I dont want to grenade the motor just for a few extra horse. I dont think I will push a rod through the block, but I could see burning a piston or valve or maybe dumping to much unburnt gas into the exhuast or something.

Maybe Ohio or Knucklehead have some more ideas...

Not to burst your bubble or anything but the stock 4.0 uses 19lb/hr injectors and the 5.2 uses 23.2lb/hr injectors. When stroking the 4.0 to a 4.6 it is common to use 24lb/hr injectors with an adjustable crank sensor to advance the timing. I think if you were to put the 5.2 injectors on your motor it would make it run very rich, hot and the obdII would be having a heyday trying to lean it out to make a good air/fuel ratio and curve.

Now don’t get me wrong im not saying don’t try it. Both the injectors should use the bosch standard electrical plug as do most fords so if it dosent work it shouldn’t be that hard to change it back.

I am running with 24lb injectors with a 68mm throttlebody. I also have headers and high flow cat back system. I have a ported head with oversized valves. What a pain in the rear it was to put that head on, to properly set the valve lash. My engine is a 4.0L. It runs fine.

I think the only possible gain on a stock 4.0L would be at very high, wide open throttle (if any gain at all)...IMO

the computer will try to lean the mixture out anyway. there may be some improvement on throttle response and such... but no instant power.

You will only confuse your computer as it tries to "optimize" the air/fuel ratio .

In order for this mod to work well , you must increase the amount of air flow through the engine .
Stroke it , port the head , bigger valves , bigger exhaust system , larger throttle body , etc ... graemlins/1welder.gif

Or , supercharge it . graemlins/jawdrop.gif

Then you will be able to gain some advantage from the increased fuel delivery . ;)

Great post guys!! This is why I posted up on here, and why I love this board so much. Thanks a bunch...

I did some research over the weekend and found out about the same thing. I may notice a small throttle response improvement but the OBDII will just adjust the millisecond time on the injectors and play with the mixture to correct. I was hearing the same thing and that I would probly need to upgrade the throttle body, intake, headers, and maybe a chip.

All in all... its not worth it to me to do all this to a Jeep. Its a Jeep not a rice rocket or a Stang! I was just wondering if it was feasable and worth while. I will however keep this in mind if I ever get around to making my 4.6L Stroker to put in... LOL

Thanks for all the help!!
