I bought my 01 TJ a year ago with 45k on it, bought it from a friend who had just spent a grand putting in a new head gasket. The whole time Ive had it their has been a slow coolant leak that I could never find. So, Ive been checking for signs that maybe the head gasket still isnt right. Well, the other morning I get home from work its a beautiful day and I think Im going to the gym, but before I do, lets top off the coolant. Bam, chocolat milk for coolant and a nice residue of goo all over the cap. WTF, mate? So, Monday morning my mechanic is going to rip it apart and see exactly what are problem is and why I have a repeat offender at 58k miles. By the way I drive like a grandpa and the guy before me does too! So, what are some opinions for viable options with this?
Rebuild it, new long block, stroker, other!

The German mechanic put beer in instead of coolant?? :D :D
J/K, no German would waste good beer that way unless it was Miller graemlins/giveup.gif
Don't see what the head gasket would have to do with dirty coolant. Maybe an internal leak?

I guess I'm thinking of something else, but then I ussually take it for granted that stuff works and don't always take the time to figure out why.......I guess I should look at my chiltons sometime. :D
I thought the head gasket was something else, I guess.

I would say...
If your mechanic is going to pull the head off, have him Magnaflux it, or somthing similar, to check it for cracks. And also have it professionaly checked for warpage at a machine shop. You should have the decklid, top of the motor checked to make sure that is flat as well.
Unless its coming from a bad water jacket in the block somewhere, around a cylinder wall maybe?
Can you smell burnt antifreeze in the exhaust? It will smell sweet...
Some mechanics can actually test the coolant to see whats in it and that gives them an idea of where the contamination is coming from.

Yup, the mechanic is going to start with cracks in the head and work from there to find out what and why exactly this happened.
No, I cant smell anything in the exhaust there was a bit of H2O draining out the pipe though.
