About a month ago the 2 speakers (5.25") in my sound bar stoped working, they still get power, because I can hear them buzzing, but they will not play any sound.

I took it to the dealership when it first happened and the told me it was my radio (They said it was overheating / the controller for the speakers was shorting out, some crap like that). So I was planing on buying a new radio so I told them I'd deal with it for a while.

I put my new radio in yesturday and what do you know the speakers still don't work! And beacuase its an after market unit they wont even touch it. They suggested an audio shop that does vehicle installs.

Is there anything I could try / check myself before having to take it to them?

I would try this in your situation...

Pull out the aftermarket stereo enough to get at the wires again. Pull the 5.25's out the bar, run some new wires right from the stereo to the speakers and see what happens. Dont get cute with the wires or anything, this is just to see if the speakers work.

If they do, than you know it is a wiring issue somewhere. If they dont, well than you need new speakers.... time to upgrade!

I just got my Cadence 6.5's for the sound bar, and 5.25's for the dash and a 400 Watt amp to push em.

Is there a way to mod the 5.25's in the sound bar to fit 6.5's?

Yeah, cut a bigger hole.

And I am going to replace the speakers eventually. I was looking at some decent 3-way speakers from Circuit city or best buy.

Actually I don't think you have to mod the sound bar to fit 6.5"s.... on my 98 sound bar I replaced them with 6.5s with no modding-- maybe it was just me though?

Duh, I just realized I did have 6.5's in there already. I'm on mod overload!

I just put 6.5's in my 98 Soundbar too with no cutting. Only drilled a few new holes for screws.

I've been looking on circut city's web page and they say the sound bar speakers are 6.5. I was just assuming 5.25 because thats how big the cone was when I measured it and that is what q-teq offers as the replacement size.

I'm thinking of replacing them with some 3-way speakers after I find out why my current ones are not working,

You can fit 6 1/2's in the soundbars , depending on the depth of the speakers .
The factory units(he said unit... graemlins/49.gif ) are 5 1/4's .
