It seems like there is always a project to do on the jeep. I am tired of getting pieces of rust stuck in my eye, so next on the list is to remove all the flaky rust on the frame and under carriage. What is the best way to do this? Thank you in advance for all your advice.

Wire wheel and a die-grinder, quick and easy:

If you dont have access to a die grinder, use a wire wheel and a cordless drill, worked for me.

Needle scalers work good for that too. (http://www.toolfetch.com/Category/Air_Tools/Specialty_Air_Tool/CP7120.htm)

Sandblasting is by far the fastest. However not a good idea if you are not restoring and have the frame stripped of everything such as the body. You might also read up on POR 15

Plces like Harbor Freight & Northern Tool have them for much less.

They are really great for thick, heavy metal like frames. You can make short work of large areas, and they really get into the nooks & crannies better than a rotary tool.

Thanks for the input. I will try the wire wheel first and maybe get one of the needle scalers. Sand blasting would be best, but I want to keep the body on while doing this. I am hoping to get everything smooth and the use the por 15. It would bother me to see the rough surface under the por.

Sand blasting gets my vote, but it does take a lot of CFM...

Doesn't the sand get everywhere? Wouldn't I have to take the body off

Depends on how you do it...
