Question: I heard someone say that the JK engine needs to be broken in. During this brake in period the engine doesn't give full power. At the end of the break in period all the power is unleashed!!! Is this true??
I also heard that Jeep did this because they didn't want the engine to get damaged for the first 1000 miles. And they wanted the drivers driving patern (habits) to get loaded into the computer. Is this true??
P.S. I know all engines need a brake in period but I never heard of a car holding back full power. Maybe its programed into the computer.

Not sure if the Jeeps do this but many other car lines do. I know the Pontiac GTO's do it. My RAMJET 350 crate motor did this as well.

It would only seem reasonable to gradually break in any engine early in its life (the "unleashing" part is rather flamboyant). I have seen people put a load on their vehicles right off the lot (figuratively and literally), only to have problems shortly after.

I think that it takes a few miles and time for everything to seat and seal and loosen up. Every new vehicle I have owned gradually increased in power once some miles were on it. Also, the gas mileage increased. But, I would not have described it as "unleased". That is definitely flamboyant.

Yes you do have a break in period and no you can go full throttle if you so desire with 1 mile on it. I did what the owners manual stated and broke the engine in accordingly. Although every so often I went above the break in speed but brought it back down to the suggested speed. Keep in mind this V-6 is not new to the industry. Been around for awhile just new to the jeep line.
