Im looking into buying a new intake and im just wondering if it would be about the same and more pratical to just to put on a new filter?
also what are your opinions on throttle body spacers?

I hear that the stock air box on the TJ will pull in more air than the engine needs, so I just put in a K&N replacement filter. Now that may not be correct, but it works fine for me.

As for TBS, they work. They do make a whistling sound under hard accelleration, but who cares? I think they're a worht while investment.

yes to the intake and spacer. i added a fram boost to my 97 and i could notice the diff. right away. it came with just a hunk of metal for the spacer as well (not one of the twisty ones) but when ya really let the throttle open, you can also hear the diff. just my opinion

I have the Turbo City air intake system. It goes for about $150 with K&N filter. There is some change, but not much. I am considering moving my exhaust mod up to when I want it rather than when the existing system needs replaced.

I have seen another oil free air filter but the cleaner exceeded $20 per cleaning.  (oil free air filters are appealing to me in maintenance and no need for cleaners and oils) When researching the FRAM Boost, I was getting more Media Player slicks and not finding what I wanted to know. How is the FRAM Boost filter cleaned?

They have a SynWash Filter (see http://www.fram.com/products/airFilters.php) that cleans with dish soap and tap water.

1) First, place the dirty air filter on a flat surface, dirty side down. Next, fill supplied 4oz container with one ounce of dish washing liquid and 3 ounces of tap water, and mix well. Then, attach the hose spray tool to the bottle and then to the garden hose. Turn the sprayer to “water-only” and wet the filter for 15 seconds. Then turn on the “soap” solution.

2) Spray the filter with soapy water for 2 minutes from about 8-12 inches away, directing the spray to clean into all the pleats and edges. Switch the sprayer back to “water-only” and spray with clean water for 1 minute to remove the soap. Turn the filter over and spray with clean water for 30 to 45 seconds to remove any of the loosened soils.

3) Properly dispose of any remaining soap and water from bottle. Rinse with clean water and let dry. Install filter into air box. Finally, turn the engine on at idle speed to conduct final inspection. Make sure the air box is properly sealed. Leave engine running at idle for 3 minutes before taking a test drive. If the Boost is washed the same and can fit on my Turbo City tube, I might change over. Currently, I have to pay for the K&N air filter cleaning kit (no less than $9), then I have to clean and oil the filter and can get about 3-4 cleaning and re-oils per kit. So abut $3 per cleaning + the trip to the store for the cleaning kit + the labor to maintain the filter. Not too much savings over the disposable box filter figuring in the maintenance.

I found my answer from their website....

Is it necessary to use FRAM Boost Cleaning solution?
Your FRAM Boost filter is made of a synthetic fiber to offer high efficiency while allowing the maximum amount of air through to your engine. In order to maintain this performance be sure to use only the FRAM Boost cleaning solution. Other cleaning solutions are not recommended and will void the limited lifetime warranty. Long way of saying "Yes".
