Im only a week or two away from finally buying my winch. Im kinda suck though, I got about 600 dollars and not sure which one im gonna get. Im kinda tossing between the Warn m8000 or the Tabor9k. Which one would you all buy?

I've got the Tabor 9k, probably would have bought the Warn if I had the money at the time though. But the Tabor has never given me a problem, its still made by Warn but without the lifetime warranty.

I'm copletely happy with my Mile Marker. It's cheaper than the Warn or the Tabor and I haven't heard any complaints about Mile Marker where I have heard a lot of people having problems with the Warn.

I got the Warn x8000 and haven't had any problems yet. Haven't done any real long pulls yet though.

I have gotta a lot of mixed opinions, some say warn is the best buy far, others hate warn.

Is it true that milemarker winches are made in japan and then shipped here and milemarker just slaps a sticker on it?

I dont have any first hand experiance as I dont have a winch yet. But when i do get one, you can bet your bubble its gonna be a Warn.

I run a Superwinch ePI 9000, and this thing has not let me down. Most of the people I run with are midsize SUV on 35's and locked. I am one of the few that has a winch. I have used the winch once for myself and about 20 times for them and it has neve overheated or stalled.

Ive got the 9500E Mile Marker...All the specs match up to the warn......definitly cheaper than the warn.........i think it even has a thicker cable than a warn......Only down side is that the reel in speed is a lil slower than the warn

I'm a lil buzzed after a few margaritas, so I'm recycling replys. Disregard the smittybuilt refrence as the rest applies.

Its already been said, you get what you pay for, what hasn't been said is that there are deals out there to be had if you look hard enough. I've had 4 warn winches, an M5000, M3500, M8000, and HS9500i, and have yet to pay over $550 delivered. The HS9500 and the M8000 were brand new in the box.

What are you getting for the name brand over the cheapo? Speed and reliability, plain and simple. Dont look at full loaded speed, look at no load speed, that is the most important number. Who cares how fast you can winch, if your winching, you're stuck, so any movement is good. What counts is how fast you can get the cable in afterwards, or during if you catch some traction.

The Smittybuilt winch is the same rebadged winch thats being sold under a dozen different names now, cheap, chineese, and a disposable item at best.

When you're 100 miles from nowhere in the woods by yourself, will you be able to have complete confidence in the bargain winch?

Its your call, but I would pass and save for a bit longer to get a quality name brand winch, warn, or ramsey.

Are there any dis/advantages to synthetic rope vs the metal material? Or whatever it is?

Texas4X4

cable-resistant to abrasion, will kill you if it snaps, cheap

synthetic rope-not very resistant to abrasion, wont kill you if it snaps, it wont develop those "meat hooks" the steel cables get...but its way more expensive than cable

I've got a Warn x8000i I bought in 1992 and have used the dog-piss out of it. It has never failed, stalled, or overheated. Amongst the countless uses over the years, I've pulled two FJ-40's back onto their wheels with it; pulled a full size bronco out of some mud stickier than the La Brea tar pits; winched myself and then two CJ's up a mud chute for 75'; and pulled an old 45 Willies through Deep Creek at Big Bear, CA. This is only a sample. For my money, I'll stick with WARN.

Failing that, my buddies have had good luck with Ramsey too.

I for one have had every hub replaced by Warn at no cost when I had a problem with one. That was with a Warn full float rear axle, and they replaced axle shafts and spindles at no cost. Now I run a 9" because the floater wasn't up to my needs. And for a winch, an XD9000i...

Welcome to the board! You should read the rules, as a rookie you cannot sell things on here, once your an established member you can though, so just wait a little bit.. 650 is a little steep though, those winches are going for 530 right now, with a fairlead.

I know that this brand most likely doesnt compete with warn or any of those other big names. But it is a 9500Lb winch which hasnt given me any problems at all. but i havent been in any extreme situations. But it is only 350-400$ for this winch which has all the same specs as a warn. accept no lifetime warranty and the line speed is a little slower. you can check them out at www.gregsmithequipment.com (http://www.gregsmithequipment.com)
and just look for the winches tab on the left of the page. it is a pretty good deal if you arent driven to have the best name on the front of your jeep and short on money.

Jeepin Dave

That looks like a decent deal. It looks like the same winch that Gorilla and a bunch of others sell though. The good deal part of this one though is the free mounting plate and a free wireless remote.

Bear in mind that for about $400 you can get a 9500# Mile Marker with a warrenty though.

Warn is a customer of mine. I went in their shop a few months ago. Seeing the way they test their products and the trust that their employees have in the company and what they make is phenomenal. When it comes to buying a winch, I’m definitely getting a Warn.

Little_Tj
05-23-2007, 08:07 PM
It also has a mounting plate not jst the fairlead

I have a Warn XD9000I , never had a bit of trouble out of it. I have 2 guys that work for me that have mile marker. Both units spend more time being fixed than working . Warn may be more expensive , but what is the use of having a winch that doesn't work.

Also , when you are stuck and your winch doesn't work , who cares what kind of warranty you have
