I have a 92 YJ, I don't have the money to buy 33's, or change the gears after putting 33's on it, will a 4" lift with 31" tires look like crap or not, does anybody have any pics of a 4" lift with 31's?

It wont look like crap, but it wont look right. I have been running 30 inch tires and a 4 inch lift for a while because i dont have the money for the other stuff like you. It just looks a little akward.

A friend of mines YJ with 4" of lift, and 31" tires:

They did look a little small, but not bad. I'm sure you will eventually want to upgrade to 33s, when you wear your 31s out, but you don't have to do it right away. I know on his Jeep when he had chrome wheels for some reason the tires looked bigger, then he swapped to black wheels using the same tires and they looked a little smaller.

It doesn't look that bad actually I was just picturing it sitting real high with little tires, we did my friends TJ with a 4" rough country lift and 33" pro comp xterrians, its a 2.5L like mine and its pretty doggy up hills, and dropped the gas mileage down pretty good so I want to stick with 31's for now, thanks for the pics and advice... anybody heard reviews on dunlop mud rover tires by chance? any good?

I've heard good things about them there is a review of them somewhere on rockcrawler.com a few folks have them here you may want to start a new topic to get some more attention. The only thing to me is the tread depth always seems really shallow to me.

dunlop mud rover tires by chance? any good?Yeap, I've run them, then sold them to a buddy. I ran the 33x12.50, they were great, cheap tire and they lasted forever, my buddy is still riding around on those nearly 3 years later (and he drives all over)! Off road they performed as good as any other mud terrain I've run.

^I've heard good things about them, but just chose the BFG Muds over them- I heard some issues with the sidwall being thin.

BFG was like $40 more a tire, but I've had them before and I trust them. Sometimes you justify spending a lil more

I'm running 32 at's for street with 5" of lift overall and it does not look bad in my opinion. Picture the gap of a motocross bike. Better off with the wheel travel than the scrunched up look of tread 2" from the flare in my op. Putting on the 33/12.50's totally changes the look and also pretty drastically alters track width for tight trails too.
