So, maybe this should be in the tech. section, but does it make much difference in temp. in the inside of your Jeep if you pull the carpet out? Basically, will I melt my Nike's if run sans rug?

Nikes?!?!
Its all about the "Three Stripes"!
Anyway...doesnt the carpet only really effect sound isolation??
And make it smell like a creek after it gets wet? :D

I dunno, when I pulled it on the CJ-7, it got purddy warm around that trans hump, that's why I ask.
BTW, I don't actual own a pair of Nikes, I like Tony Llamas, and Ariats.

I'd leave it in until you're ready to prep. But yeah it will be a little warm sometimes and a little noisier but it's worth it to pull the seats and go at it with the hose.

I can't even think of touching the floor on mine after driving for even a short distance.
I don't know if it is normal, but I seriously got a burn on my hand and on my ankle when I touched it.
Not sure if herc-ing it will help, but be careful either way.

Well I guess I should give a disclaimer that my exhaust isn't stock so it may be further from the floor (not really sure I could measure it this Friday when I head home). But the hottest it ever gets is when it sits in the sun.

Tjs are differnt than a YJ....
TJs- the carpet helps a LOT with the heat. If you pull the carpet your nikes won't melt, but if you go barefoot it can get a lil toasty. If I hit the highway I just sat my feet on my sandles if I was barefoot otherwise. If you herc it it will take a bit of the heat away.
But no, it won't get THAT hot regardless.

How does dirt from the floor get in your eyes?!?!?
Maybe with the top off, but all the stuff usually blows out in a few seconds.
Where do you live, Moab??
It's called sunglasses!
Maybe if you didn't have your windshield down!
I could go on, but I need to sleep, as you can tell.

Never had a problem with that. After winter and the top being on, the first time the top comes off, there is always some dirt flying around, but after 5 min of driving it is all gone.

Jeeps have carpet? Just Herc it and put in some rubber plugs. Then you can quickly rinse it out and your ready to go. I did that in 1999 and it has been great!

I leave my plugs in whenever I'm not too lazy to put them in.

Haha, yeah, I really don't have mine in because the holes rusted so they won't fit anymore. But I did get all the rust off before I coated it.

Here for YJ's and CJ's (http://www.quadratec.com/products/55005_51.htm)
Not sure if TJ's are different but it would appear that way by the description.

I actually had grass grow from my carpets one year...had a bad storm and some water got in and sprouted grass from some seed and dirt left on the carpet! The growing grass did keep the dust down, but I didn't want to mow, so puled the carpet.

Not sure if TJ's are different but it would appear that way by the description. Those are too big. I got a set of them off of eBay that look the same and they are too big for most of the holes. There are 2-4 holes that those would fit in, but I already have heavy duty plugs in there. There are 10-15 smaller holes (half inch or less) that I have not been able to find plugs for.

About a week later, I had a nice litle mushroom colony in my passsenger side floor board.

I had a part number that I had my friend who works the parts counter at the dealer look up for me. I ended up losing a handful of them when I did the hurc on my tj. I will give him a call and see what he remembers. A trip to the dealer might get you some or even point you in the direction of a cheeper solution.
