Anyone put the Banks cat back on the 6 cyl. TJ?
Your thoughts? Sound, performance, etc. . .

I did. It's probably the one thing I regret doing to the TJ. ...I should have stuck with the stock set up. All it really did was make it louder. If that's what your going for then go for it, but if your looking for more power then forget about it.
One thing you have to realize.....Chrysler has gotten about as much as anyone possibly can out of an iron block staight 6 that dates back 2 generations. The intake (as far as flow goes) does not improve with aftermarket add-ons (including spacers) and the exhaust is about as free flowing as you can get to balance horse power with a decently quiet ride.
That said, I have switched out both my manifold for Banks headers (really because it cracked after hitting ice water - long story) and I put on the Banks cat-back exhaust because I wanted my Jeep to sound like my brothers Mustang GT.
What I'm left with is a Jeep that constantly wakes up my wife when I'm trying to sneek in from Hooters on a Saturday night, but a Jeep that I feel seems a little more powerful getting up my hill each evening. And, I live on a BIG hill!!!
As for being a Jeep GT................not.
One other benefit-----My wife refuses to drive my TJ now because she is "embarrassed" by such a loud piece of tin ! HA - I succeeded!

AirAid (with a shop vac bag) and Banks cat back seems to work well for me. I'm getting 15.5 mpg with 35's and 456's...

I added the Banks Cat Back and got a nice low rumble. That's it. Expensive noise. I noticed no power gains and have not gotten any mileage increase.

I have the bank cat back and its durable. I have smashed it on a number of rocks and have a few very small dings in it. If you wheel your jeep in the rocks i recommend it highly. If your looking for power, i dont think it gains much at all.
If all you are after is sound the Dynamax muffler has a sound I really like and it costs alot less than the Banks.

A cheap $20 turbo muffler will give you the sound as well.

I bought the Banks cat back and after 3 muffler shops didn't want to touch it - they didn't want to mess with the transfer case - I took it home and installed the muffler myself...I could not get the old tailpipe off , so with the new muffler installed and the old tailpipe strapped up I drove down to the nearest shop to have them finish the job...sounds ok so far...the guy doing the install came in to the waiting room and told me the new pipe didn't fit and said he had to cut it...wait it gets better...he cut it TOO SHORT and now he had to weld it to the muffler to make it fit...I know damn well that banks pipe would have fit if he would have known what he was doing...anyway the weld soon was leaking and I have since installed a band clamp !

Just to finish my story...,believe it or not I have not had any problems with it since then ,except it hits the shock once in a while...but really after all that I wish I had just stuck with the stock exhaust ..... :( :(

I installed mine in my garage in about an hour.
No special tools except a hacksaw to get the old
tail pipe out. The Banks install was simple and
straight forward. I also installed a k&n and a jet chip. The power did improve. I don't think a
low restrictive air filter nor a muffler by themselves would be a great benifit.
