So heres the deal, I have a buddy selling his 89 wagoneer V8 (i'm told) in running condition (I'm told I can "drive it home.")

My question is what axles are in the wagoneer and if the swap would be worth it. Right now my 92 has the D30's with 3:07's and 35" tires, needless to say, gas milage sucks and I rarely see the top of 4th let alone 5th gear!

Are you trying to swap because of stronger axles or better gearing?

stronger axles... I'd like to to put 4:56's in what ever I get.

What I am trying to avoid is putting taller gears in the dana 30s that I have now, only for them to be shredded shortly thereafter... I just had to replace the 3:07s a couple months back (before I put the lift and tires on it.)

Also, do I have to replace the spyder gears as well or can I replace only the ring and pinion?

The 89 Wagoneer should have Dana 44's front and rear. Also on that year, the front diff is on the drivers side so you can use that too.
You will need to move the spring perches because they are not in the same spot.
The gears are probably @ 3.55 or so so they will need regeared.

If they are 3.55's as stated above, you will need a new carrier according to the carrier breaks chart (http://bbb.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=38;t=008269#72) in OhioYJ's SWB FAQ's.
