Has any one been pulled over for not having a rear license plate light? Or if you have what did the cop say? just wondering because i was thinking of getting this and didn't want to pay for the light. What do you think?

The license plate light is not a big priority, but if a cop is having a slow night of looking for a reason to pull you over. You just gave it to him.

Around here not having a license plate is garunteed to get you pulled over, whether its a slow night or not. If it just a burnt out bulb, they'll normally let you go with a warning, however I'd say if you purposly mounted the plate without a light, your're gonna get a ticket.
Why not just add a small light to the bracket?

$50! Wow... seems kinda pricey for something so simple. For $50... you'd think it would include the light....

These might have been a bit less expensive before.
Also you can find some less expensive lights in the bling-bling section of most auto parts stores.

Find a Westmarine store and check out their LED section. They have a 5 led package that looks just like the one in the AEV pic for fairly cheap, works great on my buddies heep. Me personally, havn't had a liscence plate light on my heeps since about 97, and havn't had any trouble yet, guess its bound to happen sooner or later, but if they are looking for the letter of the law, they can bust me for alot of stuff. Of course this will be after I get it on the road.

The problem you have is by not having a lighted plate, you give the police "probable cause" to stop you. And once they've stopped you, they are free to keep on looking for anything else they can find wrong with you, your jeep or it's contents..
You make yourself a target by having no light.

I agree, why risk it? But, even more basic, I have to question the location of the plate on the spare. I certainly understand the aesthetic value and don't question your taste, but I am curious about the practicality of it. I don't know about you, but having to change a flat always puts me in a bad mood and having one more obstacle to deal with (removing the plate and bracket) would only make that worse. Also, if you have to change the tire in the dark, or in the rain or snow, or on the side of a busy freeway (or all three combined), you might find yourself tempted to toss the thing in the back until you can get to a safer place to reinstall it - talk about making yourself a target for getting pulled over.
You may have other reasons for wanting to locate it there, but I would think hard about this one.
