View Full Version : Wider Fender Flairs ?

My 31 tires protrude past my stock fender flairs just enough to spew my Wrangler with everything I drive through. Someone suggested to me to buy the Best Top fender flairs. He said they were strong and maintained their shape even when crunching them up against trees. During my research of this item I see that these particular flairs have the body flair extension on the bottom. I had to do away with the body flair extension from my stock flairs when I installed a pair of Poison Spider Rocker Knockers. To make a long story endless, my question is Are the Warn flairs as durable as the best top ? Although I am considering the Warn flairs, I am open to any suggestions or info on any of the flairs Quadratec sells. I live in New England where trails are really wooded and not very wide, so I can see whatever flair I install receiving some serious abuse.

I have seen the Bestop flares fade within a few months on other Jeeps.
As per a post I made last week, the TJ Sahara and Rubicon flares are wider than stock TJ flares by about an inch. I also went to 31 X 10.50 tires with 1 ½ inch less backspacing (5.5 to 4) and had the same problem you are having. I found a used set of Sahara flares on a local BB and the problem went away. Q-Tech sells Rubicon flares (Quadratec Part No: 12514.02). The Rubicons will be similar to the TJ stock flares in texture and color. Sahara flares will be the same color as the Jeep they come from. Few Saharas have the extensions but most have the faux rocker guards.
Word of warning; there are two different types of fasteners that I ran into. One is a sheet metal screw that goes into a fixed insert. The other goes into what could be described as a plastic nut. On those you have to push the wheel well liner out of the way and keep the plastic nut from turning. Why they used two different fasteners on each of the flares I have no idea.

Thanks for the word of warning:
I have been wondering why some fasteners come out and some just spin. Now I know.

2+ years and still looking good, I would have to say they hold up well to abuse. I do park it inside...

I bought a set of used Bestop 6 inch flares from someone in the Jeep club I'm in. They are a bit faded but are sturdy as hell. I put a bead of black silicone (smoothed with a wet finger) between the body and the flare seems to work great.
For $60 I can't complain. I don't worry about how they look because my Jeep has more scratches then my flares probably ever will. They seem to hold up well when squeezing through trees. Been there, done that- this weekend in Kingston, MA.
I think for the money the New bestop flares are decent.
some more reviews for you: may or may not help

you might find some Rubicon flares for cheap. i just got mine off of a co-worker that has a 05 Rubi. He put on Bushwakers, so i bought his old ones for 100 bucks perfect condition. they are a little wider than X or Sport models.

i just put my Rubicon flares on today. The job was easy enough. i wish i had a digital camera so i could post some pics. those back screw and nut combination was a pain to say the least. i didnt bother trying to put them back and just replaced them with all sheet metal screws. worked fine. looks good too. :D :D

I am still waiting/looking for matching extensions (they are out there, I have seen them). I just was experimenting with what the Sahara faux rocker guards would look like. ( I know, I know.... graemlins/giveup.gif )
