This 3.0 CRD engine from Mercedes most likely won't make it into the European Wranglers, instead they will get the 2.8 Diesel already been used since years in the European version of the Liberty. However, the 3.0 CRD will be available in the US in the 2007 Grand Cherokee, a club member has the Grand with the CRD since a couple of months, great acceleration, torque and mileage.

My daughter has the 2.8L CRD in her Libby. She says that there will be no more made like that because of torque to weight ratio decisions at DC exec levels.
It is a shame, 'cause it is a tried and true European engine with the bugs already worked out, runs good, and enough torque to dig a hole in the pavement.
I was SOOOO hoping that it would show up in the Wrangler, but she says no.
Shucks.....

Hi Joe, in most European countries, Diesel fuel is much cheaper than regular gas. Since the diesels get also 15 - 30% better mileage, no wonder why most Europeans opt to buy the diesel versions. I believe, that much more Wranglers will be sold there with the availability of a diesel engine next year. Turbo diesels also have great torque and the diesel fuel is much safer to transport in extra gas cans if you really go far into the woods.

The 2.8 is being dropped because they can't get it to meet the new emmissions. The 3.0 will be offered in the grand. Lets hope they listen to us and offer it in the JK's eventually.

A friend of mine works at Jeep and and he said they're putting diesels in the four doors as we speak.
