I have a 95 wrangler with 4 banger and 5 speed tranny. My question is I have problems getting the tranny to go in second and third gears sometimes. The tranny works good otherwise. The tranny makes a slight grinding noise when trying to go into gear. anybody got any suggestions on what the problem is? second question is anybody know of any lift shackles for this wrangler taller than 1 1/4 thats the tallest I can find.I would like a little bit taller if possible. any suggestion appreciated

as far as the shackles are concerend you want to be carefull using huge shackles as it can throw off pinion angles and caster angles if you go too large..do not get me wrong if u design you suspension correctly, large shackles can really help out as far as flexing goes..

and when you post saying you have a stock suspension and 9inch lift shackles....people might find it humorous

 dan

EDIT: welcome to the board ;)

second question is anybody know of any lift shackles for this wrangler taller than 1 1/4 thats the tallest I can find. They make a 2" lift shackle, I had them on my Jeep for a while, however I took them off, and went a little shorter as soon as I could afford more lift, those shackles hung down really low and caught everything. I got mine from a machine shop on eBay, it was $80 for the set with bolts.

Heres a photo of my Jeep basically stock, with the 2" lift shackles, you can see they hang down really low.

The shackles will correct the pinion angle as they lift, however my 2" shackles I think overcorrected the pinion angle. Also like Dan said you will remove caster from the axle, however I didn't have a problem with mine.

In the transmission probably just worn sliders (not much you can do without a tear down, but you can let it go for quite a while without worry), a change of fluid normally helps some, mines worn pretty bad, and I find the Lucas Oil Stablizer helps quite a bit.

According to my girlfriend (don't know how she remembers), I've had the Jeep 14 months.

thanks for all the replies. Think I'm going to go with a 2 inch lift kit from BDS and 1 1/4 greasable shackles. Don't think I want any more lift than that. thanks again

The 4" of lift or even a 3.5" would eliminate the need for the tall shackles.

Just throwing other ideas out there. Couple of companies make a 3.5" lift, BDS's I believe is the 2.5" lift with a 1" shackles.

-2" kit with 2" lift springs
-3.5" kit with 3.5" lift springs
-4.5" kit which consists of the 3.5" springs and 1" shackles
-5" kit with 5" lift springs
-6" kit which consists of 5" springs and 1" shackles

The shifting prob could be either the synchros in the trans or the clutch or both.

Ohio-Man you went and molested a pristine Sahara. I looked high and low for one in stock condition that was that nice and came up empty handed. Lots of rusty junk out there in the Chicagoland area. Only if you could've sold me yours before you modded it, I could've pointed you in the direction of some "prime candidates" to build up.

I looked high and low for one in stock condition that was that nice and came up empty handed. Its more about having something solid to build from. I started out with that because it was spotless, not a spot of rust anywhere, or even a scrap on the undercarriage. The thing is actually cleaner than the day I bought it, that bottom picture it's pretty dirty, it cleans up very nice.

Then press the clutch back in and shift into one of the problem gears. This is the way big rigs have to shift because they don't have synchros. If the grinding goes away when you shift like this then it is most likely the snychro, and changing a clutch probably wouldn't fix the problem. So there is good and bad news here: (bad) if it is your synchros they might just be worn, but they might be in pieces bouncing around your trans. (good) It might be a clutch issue.

This happens to me some times but it is because I get lazy about shifting and don't hold in the clutch completely.

She probably remembers your focus of obsession changing from wanting to buy a nice stocker (takes up some of your time and energy) to wanting upgrade your stocker (takes up most of your time and energy)
